Hope and Healing Start Here!

aka Allendale   |   Lake Villa, IL   |  http://www.allendale4kids.org

Mission

We understand that kids need more than a safe haven from a life of crisis, trauma and neglect. That’s why we champion their best interests – empowering each of them to transcend their circumstances – with positive support and consistent, ongoing guidance. We believe everyone deserves a healthy childhood, a caring family, and a chance to learn, grow and change course. Allendale is a place where kids have the opportunity to restore their lives and discover a better future. We believe in every kid until they can believe in themselves. Founded in 1897, Allendale is a private, not-for-profit organization dedicated to excellence and innovation in the care, treatment, education and advocacy for families, children and youth with serious emotional, mental and behavioral health challenges.

Education services consist of a accredited on campus school for grades 3-12, satellite classes in the community and a pre-vocational studies program.

Allendale’s model, the Relational Re-Enactment Systems Approach to Treatment (REStArT), is a comprehensive child and adolescent mental health treatment model. Treatment is based on youth’s "conflict cycles" (i.e. relational trauma), which are defined by their re-enactments of their attachment experiences in the present. By engaging all systems involved with a youth and the experiences the members of those systems have with him, the treatment team can develop an understanding of how the youth sees themselves, others, and their relationships. Plans for treatment, then, are driven by this conceptualization, which is unique to each youth, but created within a model that uses attachment theory, object relations theory, an understanding of the impact of trauma and neurobiological underpinnings to organize the youth’s patterns into diagnostic categories. Treatment plans are developed to interrupt this cycle.
