What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Youth today in the US are farther and farther from hearing the Good News of how Jesus can change their lives, give them a purpose for living and the power to become all that God can make them. Church attendance is down, and often those young people who attend say that it isn't relevant to their lives. Many who are involved as kids, never come back as adults. To reach those alienated from the church and those involved but not committed, between now and 2030 we are launching outreach programs in America's 30+ densest urban areas, where 75% of youth will be living in the near future. These outreaches will be tailored to the needs and the cultural language of the youth that live in those mega-plexes, bringing home the relevance of faith in Jesus Christ.

Five powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

What is the organization aiming to accomplish?

YFC reaches young people everywhere, working together with the local church and other like-minded partners to raise up lifelong followers of Jesus who lead by their godliness in lifestyle, devotion to the Word of God and prayer, passion for sharing the love of Christ and commitment to social involvement.

MISSION STRATEGY

As an organization we must be focused on bringing about the sustainability and fruitfulness of our ministry sites, the point of contact between YFC and young people. Accordingly, we are devoting all of our resources to ensure that each ministry site is characterized by the following:

Five Essential Characteristics of Sustainable & Fruitful Ministry Sites

Widespread Prayer
We deliberately engage lots of Christians to intercede on behalf of the ministry site.

Loving Relationships
We consistently pursue lost kids and engage them in lifelong relationships with Jesus.

Faithful Bible Teaching
We accurately handle biblical truth, regularly coaching kids to apply it in their lives.

Collaborative Community Strategy
We intentionally work together with local churches, agencies and other partners to provide sustainable youth and family ministry.

Adults Who Empower
We strategically develop leaders to reach young people from every people group.

Youth for Christ/USA's more than 2,000 ministry sites include high school or middle school campus clubs, teen parent programs, juvenile justice centers, community centers, or urban clubs. We believe that as we relentlessly focus our energy, resources and passion around expanding and deepening these ministry sites, we will most effectively reach young people and see their lives transformed.

Youth for Christ has embarked on a focused effort to employ our 1,000+ paid staff and 15,000 volunteers to reach 30+ of the nation's largest population centers. Over the past 3 years we have been able to create a strategic plan to reach 1,000,000 kids a year and mobilize 140,000 volunteers, by 2030. Using our 70 years' of experience in youth work and a refreshed vision of the landscape, we have refreshed our tool-box with new ministry models and a committment to indigineous leadership. In the past years we have opened over 50 new ministry locations in a variety of partnerships with individuals, churches and other organizations, streamlining our infrastructure to be able to nimbly reach youth without the need to build complicated corporate structures.

We take great pains to measure our effectiveness annually. We have built a software tool that exists on our internal website that measures the number of youth, segmenting out those who are "lost" kids as opposed to those who are already Christian. We also measure the number of volunteers engaged with youth and the number who are in support roles. Our plan is complex and contains several steps that are preparatory and many years of concentrated and focused growth, but the eventual goal of 1,000,000 kids reached every year is our key measurement.

We have raised key funding to create our plan and staff our leadership team for this push. Our first three years (2016-18) are focused on creating a healthy and unified organization. We have had to release a small number of our chapters who could not catch this vision, but that puts us in a position of unity to go forward. We have re-structured our National Office to align with this effort, placing our best minds in positions of leadership and management, freeing them to create and support growth. We have also trimmed our budget and focused it on this one goal, trimming several very worthy, non-essential departments.
