What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
International Vistors Leadership Program
The International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) is the U.S. Department of State’s premier professional exchange program. Through short-term visits to the United States, current and emerging foreign leaders in a variety of fields experience this country firsthand and cultivate lasting relationships with their American counterparts. Professional meetings reflect the participants’ professional interests and support the foreign policy goals of the United States. Our participants, nominated by the U.S. Embassies, visit multiple cities across the U.S.to build relationships and exchange best practices with their American counterparts in a variety of fields. WorldChicago’s goal is to connect IVLP visitors with non-profit, business, and civic leaders in the Chicago area to spark meaningful dialogue and collaboration.
Youth Leadership Programs
The Youth Leadership Program fosters mutual understanding, respect, and civic engagement among young Americans and their international peers. Emerging youth Leaders from all over the world who range in age from 16-18 are invited by the US Department of State to participate in a 2-3 week program in Chicago. This program exposes them to areas of democracy, religious diversity and community building. The young people stay in Chicago area homes with families that are interested in global education and hospitality. During the exchanges, students and educators participate in workshops, community service activities, team building exercises, meetings with community leaders, leadership development, and live with American families. Upon their return home, the students apply what they have learned to implement projects that serve needs in their communities.
Professional Fellows Program
This is a program by the US Department of State that identifies emerging leaders to come to the United States and be placed in a Chicago area business/organization for a 4 week program. WorldChicago matches the delegate with fellowship to match their expertise. These are mid-level managers in their country of origin. Fellows stay in Chicago area homes with host families that provide the cultural component of their stay. The program is designed to build partnerships between emerging leaders from foreign countries and the United States.
Open World Program
The Open World program is a U.S. Legislative Branch initiative that aims to illustrate the importance of legislative functions in creating and sustaining democracies to rising leaders in Eurasian countries. Participants engage with U.S. governing systems at the federal state, and local levels and interact with their American counterparts, members of Congress, and Congressional staff. Participants come to Chicago for a 10-day program to meet with their professional counterparts. The delegates stay in Chicago area homes with host families that provide the cultural component of their program.

- We ask team members to identify racial disparities in their programs and / or portfolios.
- We have long-term strategic plans and measurable goals for creating a culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
- We seek individuals from various race backgrounds for board and executive director/CEO positions within our organization.
- We have community representation at the board level, either on the board itself or through a community advisory board.
