Mission

Aspire's mission is to support the successes of kids and adults with developmental disabilities, strengthen their families and build embracing communities. Aspire is recognized as a leader in providing bold, pioneering and uncompromising services to kids and adults with disabilities, their families and the Chicagoland community through four enterprises: Aspire Kids, Aspire Living, Aspire Careers and Aspire CoffeeWorks. From its inception over 50 years ago, Aspire has pushed the boundaries of what is possible for people with disabilities. Today, Aspire continues to promote models of inclusion ahead of society's expectations. Each year, Aspire serves over 1,000 kids and adults with disabilities, and their families.

Our goal, quite simply, is to help people with developmental disabilities to live, learn and grow in the community.

Aspire offers a large breadth of person-centered services. True to the vision of our founders, we focus on community-based services with a common thread of building self-reliance. Our services have evolved as we continue to seek innovative ways to meet the growing and changing needs of children and adults with developmental disabilities. The following programs comprise the core services offered by Aspire:

• Aspire Kids is a leading provider of pediatric therapy and specialized services for children with developmental delays and disabilities in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs.

• Aspire Living (formerly Aspire Residential Services) provides an array of services which assist adults with developmental disabilities to live as independently as possible in the community. These services include 16 community homes, which provide living arrangements with 24-hour residential care.

• Aspire Careers help adults with developmental disabilities to achieve the pride and independence that accompany successful employment. We offer a choice of opportunities to meet the needs of adults with varying abilities, vocational skills and workplace experience. Through our services, we encourage people with disabilities to imagine their dream job and succeed.

Several major accomplishments in the last few years have helped us to advance our mission:

• Aspire's Life on My Own Program - In collaboration with The Coleman Foundation, Aspire launched this transitional living model that empowers adults with mild to moderate autism and other disabilities to live in the community with minimal assistance within one to two years. Participants learn health/nutrition, safety, personal finance, transportation, and employment skills. As of today, 11 adults are currently enrolled in or have completed the Life on My Own curriculum. Of those who graduated, 100% continue to live independently in the community.

• “All Are Welcome" Initiative – We are pleased to report that the first cohort of ten Catholic school principals has completed a Certificate in Leading Inclusive Catholic Schools at Loyola University Chicago. The partnership with The Arthur Foundation, the Big Shoulders Fund, and the Andrew M. Greeley Center for Catholic Education at Loyola University Chicago seeks to foster inclusion of students with developmental disabilities in Catholic schools throughout the Chicagoland area.

• Aspire CoffeeWorks – Over the past year, Aspire CoffeeWorks has made considerable progress toward growing its office coffee sales. The social enterprise was launched in 2010 to create jobs for adults with disabilities while earning a new source of earned income to support Aspire's programs. Today, over 30 law firms and other companies such as Walgreens University, twelve Walgreens distribution centers across the country, Fourk at the 440 South LaSalle Street building, and Brinks Gilson & Lione are serving Aspire CoffeeWorks in their cafeterias.
