Community-focused grants and programs -in 2002 RMHC provided funding and support to a variety of organizations that work to address the needs of children in communities across the U.S. Throughout 2002, a total of $5,752,352 was awarded in grants to community organizations - nearly $4 million of that through a matching grant program established with the 130 local Chapters of RMHC. Grants/Programs supporting RMHC Chapters and Ronald McDonald House progrms - RMHC provides on-going support to its local Chapters that operate in 44 countries, including the U.S. Specifically, RMHC provides local Board members/staff with a variety of tools necessary to carry out their duties day-to-day. In 2002, RMHC focused its support of local Chapters and their programs in several key areas: not-for-profit management and development ckills, operations support for new Chapters of RMHC operating outside the U.S. and support for the expansion of the Ronald McDonald House program worldwide. In all $4,980,310 was funded for Chapter/program support. Children's Healthcare Initiatives and Medical Research grants - one of the most critical needs facing children worldwide today is access to basic healthcare services. To address this need in 2002, RMHC funded a variety of programs that provided for basic medical/dental needs for children and addressed a variety of specific medical conditions. Most prominent in this funding was program support for the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile program that operates in 10 communities in the U.S. and Buenos Aires, Argentina. Ronald McDonald Care Mobile programs bring urgently-needed health care directly to underserved children. In total, support for these programs overall was $3,582,240. Children's Education Advancement Grants and Programs - providing children in the U.S. with high-quality educational experiences remains a major priority in the U.S today. In 2002, RMHC directed a large portion of its giving to scholarship programs, most helping high school seniors enter their first year of college. Through RMHC's own programs, funds were awarded to students with at least one parent of Hispanic, Asian/Pacific or African American heritage. Through other organizations, scholarships went to students attending HBCU schools or pursuing degrees in pediatric health/medicine. Total dollars for this program area for 2002 were $3,445,200.
