aka American Refugee Committee   |   Minneapolis, MN   |  https://wearealight.org/

Mission

Alight exists to walk alongside those who – by sheer circumstance – find themselves on the long and arduous journey of displacement. Each year Alight serves 3.5 million people in over 20 countries who have been displaced by climate, conflict, and social and economic exclusion. We listen closely to their voices, gathering insights that allow us to provide innovative human-centered services and programs. By co-creating alongside displaced people we can ensure that we are meeting their needs and moving beyond necessities to build lives that are full of joy, connection, and purpose.

It started with an observation. At some point in time, humanitarian organizations like ours had stopped thinking of refugees as their primary customer and instead become focused on large funders. We had deprioritized the people we are here to serve - and that wasn't good enough. Kuja Kuja is our answer.

It's a real-time feedback system that tracks customers’ levels of satisfaction with products and services, records their ideas for how those services might be improved, and makes that data freely available for everyone to see and use.

Kuja Kuja is more than a moral obligation - it's also good business. Understanding our customer more deeply will allow ARC to increase the value and impact that its services currently deliver and to make better decisions about new services to design. We’re starting by testing Kuja Kuja on our own organization. We believe that Kuja Kuja will revolutionize service design and implementation for non profit and for-profit organizations around the world.

Asili is organized around one guiding principle - that our services are desired by our customers and worthy of our children. For too long, healthcare and other vital services in the Democratic Republic of Congo have been provided through foreign aid budgets that are designed to meet minimum quality standards, standards that we ourselves would reject. And that's simply not good enough.

A business startup co-created by ARC, USAID, IDEO.org, international partners, and most importantly, Congolese mothers and families, Asili is an answer people deserve - and that they want. Some of the most critical services that Eastern Congolese communities are asking for include reliable healthcare, clean water, and economic opportunities. Asili delivers on those services - but always according to the highest industry standards that anyone, anywhere, could trust and rely on.
