Program Vision
Farm Aid builds and strengthens family farm food systems to ensure a future for family farmers, good food, and a better America. Through grant funding, public education, activism, direct service, strategic partnerships, and offering opportunities to engage meaningfully, Farm Aid works to:
• Amplify the voice of family farmers to bring attention to the challenges they face and the benefits they bring
• Connect farmers to resources and opportunity, connect farmers to eaters, and in general connect people so that they may cultivate community and power
• Celebrate family farmers, good food and the culture of agriculture, in which we all can participate
• Empower farmers and eaters to participate in a democratic, just and sustainable farm and food system
• Invest talent, time and money in efforts that effect positive change in the farm and food system.
Farm Aid leads and supports national, state and local efforts that keep farmers on the land, build resilient, sustainable and family farm-centered food production systems, and increase popular demand for family farm food. Family farm food systems form the foundation of a sustainable future and a better America. Family farm food systems keep family farmers on their land providing fresh, safe, and healthful food, protecting and preserving our natural resources, strengthening communities and the local economy. Family farm food systems enable family farmers, consumers, and nature to thrive together.
Growing the Good Food Movement
In order for family farmers to thrive we have to create more markets for them, giving more people the opportunity to access family farm food. Farm Aid fosters connections between farmers and eaters by growing and strengthening local and regional markets and working to get family farm food in urban neighborhoods, grocery stores, restaurants, schools and other public institutions.
Promoting Food from Family Farms
We know that to keep family farmers on the land we have to increase the number of people buying their good food. From our annual festival event that features family farm food and unites farmers, artists, and concerned citizens, to our inspiring and informative tv, radio, mail and web campaigns, we are building a powerful movement for good food from family farms.
Taking Action to Change the System
Farm Aid works with local, regional and national organizations to promote fair farm policies and grassroots organizing campaigns designed to defend and bolster family farm-centered agriculture. We've worked side-by-side with farmers to protest factory farms and inform farmers and eaters about issues like genetically modified food and growth hormones. By strengthening the voices of family farmers, Farm Aid stands up for the most resourceful, heroic Americans—the family farmers who work the land. Farm Aid's Action Center (http://www.farmaid.org/action) allows concerned citizens to become advocates for farm policy change.
Helping Farmers Thrive
For over 30 years, Farm Aid has answered 1-800-FARM-AID to provide immediate and effective support services to farm families in crisis. Now Farm Aid's online Farmer Resource Network (http://www.farmaid.org/ideas) connects farmers to an extensive network of organizations across the country that help farmers find the resources they need to access new markets, transition to more sustainable and profitable farming practices, and survive natural disasters.
