Mission

OPALGA's mission is to improve the quality of life and empower gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered residents of the area through communications, education, participation, celebration and understanding, thereby incorporating our unique strengths and values into every day life. OPALGA strives to foster a community wide understanding of the issues that gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered people face through direct outreach and interaction with local community organizations.

OPALGA+ Scholarship Fund

The OPALGA+ Student Scholarship Fund provides financial support for continuing education of local, Cook County Illinois, LGBTQ+ students and allies who have demonstrated service and advocacy to the LGBTQ+ community and/or the larger community. Scholarships are $5,000 each paid directly to the college or program you plan to attend. APPLICATIONS FOR $5000 SCHOLARSHIPS FOR THE 2024-25 SCHOOL YEAR ARE DUE BY FEBRUARY 15, 2024.

OPALGA+ has a group of volunteers that support like-minded non-profit organizations. We regularly volunteer at the Chicago Food Depository doing re-packing. We help the Oak Park Township and River Forest Township with their back-to-school programs.
