Mission

Around the Coyote, a 501(c)3 non-profit, supports, promotes and makes accessible Chicago's multidisciplinary arts community. Our activities enhance public discourse and provide creative outlets for emerging artists. Year-round programming includes multi-media arts festivals featuring visual art, theater, dance, film, music, video and poetry in the spring and fall; art exhibitions in the Around the Coyote gallery; an artist-in-residence program; membership opportunities for artists and art aficionados; educational outreach for all ages through multi-media art workshops, lectures, collaborations with local schools and agencies, and career development workshops for artists. Programming is partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency, and the CityArts Program 2 grant from the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs.

Our programs

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Fall Arts Festival

Our Fall Arts Festival brings together over 300 painters, sculptors, photographers, installation artists and printmakers along with emerging artists from Chicago's theatre, dance, literary and film communities to offer a weekend packed full of exhibits, lectures, art tours and performances. Over the course of three days, nearly 10,000 visitors from all over the world converge to take part in one of Chicago's most dynamic arts festivals. Curated from open applications, our festivals bring visitors the best of the emerging arts of every discipline.

Population(s) Served

The purpose of Around the Coyote's Artist-in-Residence program is to give the artist the use of a large, well-lit space to use as a studio for a month in the creation of a new and potentially non-market driven work of installation art. The residency is also designed to allow our gallery audience, including ATC members, students, and visitors to see work being designed, conceptualized and realized. We would also like to give our members a chance to meet with a professional artist, perhaps working in a different medium, in order to engage in discussion on technique and concepts.

Population(s) Served

Around the Coyote is pleased to host a series of courses and a summer art camp for children between the ages of 6 and 12. We offer these neighborhood kids an opportunity for fun, exciting educational programs that nurture creativity, expand awareness of the arts, and build self-esteem. By the end of each course, students have completed several individual art projects and have enhanced their knowledge of the history of art while having fun in a positive, nurturing environment.
