Celebrating African American in US Labor History

What we aim to solve
The major problem that we have is a need to protect and clarify our brand. One that we worked years to develop and perfect. In 2015 the area where we are located was designated by National Park Service The Pullman National Monument. Now, we are experiencing challenges with our walk-in visits and tour bookings. This is a direct result of other entities, also located within the monument, duplicating our content, because it is now popular. The saturation has impacted our revenue and is diminishing the significance of our brand. The problem could be remedied with a strong two-pronged marketing campaign, that we are seeking resources to fund. The development and implementation, of a carefully and clearly defined targeted marketing campaign - One that would highlight every site located in the Pullman National Monument. A campaign that identifies each site highlighting the focus of each – This will help every site to recognize having variety in the visitor experience is good business.

Traveling Exhibit
A temporary and traveling exhibition based on the historic and landmark contributions of African Americans to Americas’ labor movement. A focus of the exhibition is to convey pictorially the powerful compelling story of the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters complemented by a multi-media technology component Curated specifically with the target audience of the African American students in mind, the goal of the exhibit will be to highlight major aspects of social, political and educational underpinnings of, in most cases, a racially divided nation, seen through the eyes of Americas organized labor history.
Civi Education and Civic Engagement
Civic education workshops: The purpose to get the general public to think critically and discuss how we can improve our country. The ultimate goal, of these free gatherings, to help participants gain or re-gain understanding of our government in the context of political development over time.
It is this aspect of American citizenship, the ability to impact our policies and representatives, which is so crucial to our political structure. These discussion-centered around the goal to help citizens understand and utilize their individual rights that were granted in the founding documents.
The active engagement of citizens in the direction of our city, our state, and this country is paramount in creating a successful future.

Cultural inspiration /Education Fourms
To enable the African American population to identify with their cultural heritage connection, to Pullman. The informal workshop series is trying to accomplish, both physically and culturally, is to utilize cultural inspiration to change a communities mindset. The Pullman National Monument is changing every day. Plans are being made and it is extremely important that the northern half of the Pullman National Monument, where the population is 95% African America, be made to feel a part of, the exciting new development and further, that their legacy, is just as important as Pullman's architecture.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Our mission is to promote, honor and celebrate the legacy of A. Philip Randolph and contributions made by African-Americans to America's labor movement; with a significant focus on the African American Railroad Employee. At our facility this celebration begins with the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters, as we educate the public about their historic legacy and contributions.
Our primary goal is to bring this important component of history to the broader public
that we believe contains valuable lessons that can benefit all people.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Through the use of our Traveling Exhibit
We have a traveling exhibit that we use to expose this important history to people across the country.
Consulting on written Material
We are also frequently consulted on this subject matter that ultimately is used to expose it to the broader pubic, in a way that we cannot afford to do on our own.
Lectures and Seminars on the various ways how organized labor and civil rights intersect.
Utilizing Social Media
We frequently utilize social media which has been highly effective in garnering interest from the younger demographic.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Though small in size over the years our resume of accomplishments for which we are very proud continues to grow in scope and recognition both on a local and national scale. We were sought out to consult with the SHOWTIME network on the production of the original docudrama, 10,000 Black Men Named George, and have been featured in numerous electronic and printed media programs such as ABC's Good Morning America with Robin Roberts, and also featured on CBS evening news.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Through the work we have done through the museum , we have created nation-wide recognition for A. Philip Randolph and the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters.
We have accomplished recognition with national media such as Good Morning America and CBS Evening News.
We have amassed a 5000 member data base of descendants located in 48 of the 50 states.
