Mission

Hillside Health Care International is a faith-based, nonprofit organization dedicated to serving God by providing health care and disease prevention to the people of southern Belize. HHCI is devoted to improving the quality of life in the Toledo district by providing medical care, health education, and community outreach. HHCI also promotes healthy global attitudes by offering a culturally rich educational program for medical volunteers and students that challenges them to better understand better their role in international health care. The third part of HHCI's mission is to work with the Belizean staff of Hillside Clinic to develop their workplace leadership skills.

Notes from the nonprofit

HHCI is licensed by the Belize Ministry of Health and provides primary care to the residents of the Toledo District of Belize at our ambulatory clinic and through mobile medical clinics and other outreach efforts. Our organization also teaches post-graduate students in clinical rotations in medicine, pharmacy, rehabilitation, and public health. In addition, we welcome researchers from around the world to participate in our programs and host nursing student programs and other educational programs throughout the year. In many instances, HHCI's programs like physical therapy and home nursing care are unique in the Toledo district. The Toledo District is remote and the most diverse in Belize and requires our team to work in several languages to deliver culturally competent health care. A current project is pursuing medical translator credentials for our staff and conducting a Health Communications feasibility study to reach more residents with critical health information.
