Mission

The mission of RxART is to help children heal through the extraordinary power of visual art. We commission established contemporary artists to transform children's hospital settings into engaging and uplifting healing environments at no cost to the hospitals. Each commissioned artist is provided with an honorarium, the opportunity to create a public installation with purpose, and the chance to transform the lives of children as they heal.

RxART Project with Nina Chanel Abney for NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst

RxART is proud to be working with Nina Chanel Abney on a project for the Pediatric Ambulatory Clinic at NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst. Abney will create a bright design to be produced as wall coverings and vinyl decals, installed in the waiting areas and hallways of the clinic.

NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst provides services for approximately 15,000 pediatric and adolescent patients annually. Founded in 1832, the hospital is located in the most ethnically diverse community in the world (Elmhurst, Queens) with immigrants from 112 countries. It is designated a “Baby-Friendly” Hospital by Baby-Friendly USA, an initiative of the World Health Organization and the United Nation's Children’s Fund.

Goal Amount: $10,000.00 (mostly funded)
Deadline: 6/30/22

RxART is deeply grateful to Glori Cohen and Agnes Gund for their generous support of this project. For more information on supporting RxART’s projects, contact Megan Skidmore: [email protected] or 212-260-8797.

This past fall, RxART premiered Between the Lines: Coloring Book Volume 8, which features a colorful cover and sticker spread of imagery created by Derrick Adams, which is related to his 2020 RxART installation at NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem. Including Adams, Volume 8 features original drawings by 50 contemporary artists. All proceeds from the sale of these books through RxART's website and select retailers go to support RxART’s mission.

The majority of RxART Coloring Books are donated to pediatric patients in hospitals nationwide and select hospitals internationally. Since 2005, more than 135,000 coloring books have been donated to children and families in nearly 60 hospitals! This funding goal will allow RxART to cover the cost of shipping coloring book donations throughout the year so no costs at all are incurred by the hospital recipients.

Goal Amount: $25,000.00
Deadline: Dec. 31, 2022

To inquire about donations, contact Sara Robertson: [email protected]|212-260-8797.

RxART is excited to be working with Shara Hughes on a major project for Phoenix Children’s Hospital. Her calming landscapes will grace the walls of the hospital’s nearly central corridor, which is the first point of entry for patients to nearly every department of the hospital. All patients are admitted or routed to their Care Area through this central corridor and the elevators housed here.

Approximately 70,000 patients will experience Hughes’ RxART installation at Phoenix Children’s Hospital each year. The 2021-22 U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Children’s Hospitals,” ranked Phoenix Children’s Hospital for the 11th consecutive year, and the hospital has been recognized for 10 out of 10 ranked specialties, including Neonatology, Cardiology & Heart Surgery, and Neurology & Neurosurgery.

Goal Amount: $55,000.00
Deadline: 6/15/22
