Mission

The mission of Uptown Players is to present professional theatre that meets a rising demand for audiences to see their life experiences represented on stage. We offer diverse productions focusing on contemporary and alternative lifestyle themes that explore topics including diversity, relationships, family, prejudice, and social values. We present plays and musicals that challenge audiences artistically, strengthen cultural bridges with the LGBTQ+ community, and create greater positive public awareness and acceptance through the performing arts. Uptown Players is one of the leading regional theaters in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. There is no other theater group with this unique mission in the Dallas area.

Uptown Players, a professional theater group located in the Uptown area of Dallas, has announced its 2016-2017 season at the Kalita Humphreys Theater and Dallas City Performance Hall, which will feature the regional premieres of the six-time 2015 Outer Critics Circle Award nominated musical, It Shoulda Been You and the hilarious 2014 Off-Broadway hit comedy The Tribute Artist. Also in the season lineup are the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning drama, Angels In America, Part One: Millennium Approaches, and the Tony Award-winning musical La Cage Aux Folles. Uptown Players will also present a concert version of the multi-Tony Award winning musical, Titanic, in conjunction with the Turtle Creek Chorale in May at the City Performance Hall, and its annual fundraising production, Broadway Our Way, returns in March.

Rounding out its 2017-2018 season is its annual fundraising production, Broadway Our Way.

DALLAS, June 20, 2019 – Uptown Players, a professional theater group located in the Uptown area of Dallas, has announced its 2018-2019 season at the Kalita Humphreys Theater and Moody Performance Hall. The season will feature the regional premieres of the 2017 Drama Desk nominated musical, The View Upstairs, a new comedy from the writer of NBC's Emmy-nominated hit "This is Us", The Cake, plus the world premiere of a special holiday tribute, A Very Judy Christmas. Also in the season lineup are the hilarious 2016 Broadway musical, Disaster!, and the Tony Award-winning Musical Spring Awakening, which will be presented at Moody Performance Hall. Rounding out its 2018-2019 season is its annual fundraising production, Broadway Our Way, also at Moody Performance Hall and the previously announced production of Angels In America Part Two: Perestroika.

The season will feature the regional premieres of a new twist on the Nunsense holiday special, Nuncrackers A-men! along with our annual fundraiser Broadway Our Way. The remainder of the 2020 season was cancelled or postponed to 2021 and we pivoted to filming productions to stream. Those productions were the world premiere of Helen Holy's Heavenly Holiday Spectacular and a new one-man version of Application Pending.

Fun Home: August 20 - August 29
The winner of five Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Fun Home is a musical masterpiece adapted by Lisa Kron and Jeanine Tesori from Alison Bechdel's 2006 graphic memoir.
A Very Sordid Wedding: September 24 - October 3
Uptown Players presents a special, limited-run presentation of the world premiere of Del Shores’ new play, A Very Sordid Wedding.
Oy Vey in a Manger: December 10-12
For 24 years, KINSEY SICKS - America's Favorite Dragapella Beautyshop Quartet has served up a feast of music and comedy to audiences at performing arts centers, music venues, and comedy festivals across the USA and Mexico! Their award-winning a cappella singing, sharp satire, and over-the-top drag have earned Kinsey Sicks a devoted following.
