What we aim to solve
Cancer Education and Research Institute® (CERI) is the first and only simplified and multi-language global cancer nonprofit organization. It acts as a hub to integrate all non-treatment aspects of the challenge that is cancer. It connects all the key constituents in the cancer community – patients, medical professionals, research institutions, academia, and pharmaceutical companies through its uniquely designed programs. The mission of Cancer Education and Research Institute® (CERI), formerly known as Cancer Research Simplified, is to: 1) make cancer and cancer research understandable for everyone; 2) bridge the gap between cancer professionals and cancer patients; 3) provide cancer research scholarships for promising high school students worldwide, career guidance, and mentorship; and 4) conduct in-house innovative cancer research and directly translate it to the public. CERI acts as a hub to integrate all non-treatment aspects of the challenge that is cancer. It connects all the key constituents in the cancer community – patients, medical professionals, research institutions, academia, and pharmaceutical companies through its uniquely designed programs. CERI's vision is to create a world where cancer patients are treated with high quality care regardless of their cultural, ethnic, socioeconomic, and linguistic differences, and a world that is cancer-free.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Cancer Explained! TV Show
Cancer Explained! is CERI’s (a Boston-based, global non-profit organization on cancer education) educational channel. Our program provides information on cancer types, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment methods and options in a straightforward, non-technical way and in multiple languages, reaching a broad audience in all of the US and worldwide. We interview cancer patients and survivors from around the world, and discuss with renowned cancer scientist latest cancer research. Streaming our Cancer TV Show through multiple channels within Massachusetts and across the US, and on Youtube to reach a global audience, will help empower cancer patients to learn more about, and take charge of, their disease.
CERI Youth Program
Educating children and youth about cancer, cancer prevention, raising cancer awareness, healthy lifestyle, exercise, and diet, and a platform to provide cancer research scholarships for promising young students.
Public Cancer Seminars/Symposiums
Our Cancer Symposium Series are open to the public and will enable attendees to learn specific details about specific cancer types, their symptoms, diagnosis, treatment methods, latest research and steps to be taken after survival while providing an interactive component where cancer specialists will answer questions.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
CERI’s simplified and multi-language cancer education programs covers unmet needs and make a real difference within the health system and in patients’ lives. Our programs are free of medical jargon, bringing cancer information “down” to the laymen for them to comprehend easily and address the cultural and linguistic barriers.
Our programs are tailored to ethnic groups and culture, reducing the barriers in learning fundamentals about general cancer or a specific cancer type.
All our programs are a unique approach and ensured great success. Our goal is to expand the CERI Personalized Patient Program™ (combined with our CERI Cancer Education Program) by 1) solidifying CERI's partnerships with prominent hospitals around the globe, and 2) raise funds to expand this program for many more patients worldwide.
We further look to build our own CERI Cancer Research Laboratory to conduct in-house cancer immunotherapy and translate it directly to the public. For this, we found a suitable laboratory space in Cambridge, MA, however, necessary funds to secure this spot is mandatory. Overall, the foundation of the CERI Cancer Research Laboratory requires $1 million.
Our goal is to majorly expand our established educational and patient programs throughout communities within Massachusetts with much needed funding. For this, financial support is much needed.

What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
CERI has four major programs:
1. CERI Personalized Patient Program™ - Personalized patient-directed services worldwide:
CERI acts as a liaison between cancer patients and medical professionals. It bridges the gap between cancer specialists and cancer patients. We act as a liaison and develop the necessary efficient communication between the patient and doctors. Through the CERI Personalized Patient Program™, CERI provides patients and their families personalized, simplified education in local language about the cancer type being dealt with, including targeted treatment, and latest research. It further identifies, and guides patients toward clinical trials and top specialists in their disease. This allows timely and efficient treatment.
2. CERI Cancer Education Program - Worldwide public cancer education for prevention and control:
CERI’s education goals are focused on spreading the science on how people can proactively help prevent cancer from occurring through identifying cancer risks and adopting healthy lifestyle choices. We offer these education programs locally and overseas to the public in simplified terms and currently in 8 languages. The tangible results of our unique education program lead to our recognition by the United Nations, receiving the UNIATF Award 2019. Our goal is to continue to expand our educational programs worldwide.
3. CERI Youth Program - Worldwide youth programs, career guidance, and research scholarships:
CERI takes its education objective further when it comes to the youth of the world. [With] Specially designed programs within its CERI Youth Program, CERI simplifies and explains children and youth what cancer is and highlighting highlights healthy lifestyle choices to avoid cancer in the future. Our unique programs lead to tangible results, as we were the first to draw public attention to flavored tobacco and e-cigarettes with our educational video in 2014. CERI has further the objective of developing the next generation top cancer scientists by offering high school summer research scholarships and career guidance and mentoring.
4. CERI Cancer Research Program - Will soon expand to operate its cancer research laboratory in Boston:
The fourth and next focus area of CERI is cancer research itself. As cancer immunotherapy experts, CERI will develop a vigorous research program. CERI’s planned research laboratory in Boston will be unique in that it will be ‘by and for the public’, and not guided by any one pharmaceutical or academic institution. Uniquely, both CERI’s cancer research and education of the public on this research will be conducted in-house. This will allow the outcomes from the research and its explanation to the public to have a broader scope and positively impact more lives. Fund raising is ongoing for the lab, which is planned to start operating in 2020 (update: due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this specific fundraising and opening is delayed).
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
CERI’s cancer education programs are led by CERI’s CEO, Founder, and Cancer Lead, Dr. Ayguen Sahin, Ph.D., a cancer scientist, a former Harvard Medical School faculty member and a multi-language speaker (4 languages), who is the primary cancer lead and educator. She provides well-liked online education in English, German, and Turkish, and has held several, highly favored cancer lectures in several neighborhoods in Boston and in Istanbul, Turkey. (see above)
CERI is in the process of recruiting more board members and volunteer team members.

In fact, 100% of all our completed cases are cancer-free. Within this program, CERI has collaborated with hospitals including Massachusetts Genera Hospital (MGH), Mass Eye and Ear, University of Düsseldorf in Germany, and Dokuz Eylül University in Turkey.
Our program is a unique approach and a great success. Our goal is to expand the CERI Personalized Patient Program™ by 1) solidifying CERI's partnerships with prominent hospitals around the globe, and 2) raise funds to expand this program for many more patients worldwide.
We further look to build our own CERI Cancer Research Laboratory to conduct in-house cancer immunotherapy and translate it directly to the public. For this, we found a suitable laboratory space in Cambridge, MA, however, necessary funds to secure this spot is mandatory.
