Mission

The mission of the Christian Legal Society is to inspire, encourage, and equip Christian Lawyers and law students both individually and in community to proclaim, love and serve Jesus Christ through the study and practice of law, the provision of legal assistance to the poor and needy, and the defense of the inalienable rights to life and religious freedom.

The Christian Legal Society

The Christian Legal Society serves its members and the public through 4 operating ministries organizational Divisions:
Through its Legal Aid Ministries (LAM) Division, CLS recruits and trains lawyers to voluntarily provide free legal and spiritual counsel to the poor and the needy being served through facilities provided by cooperating faith-based social service providers, including selected churches, the Salvation Army or members of the International Union of Gospel Missions. CLS' Public Ministries also maintains a national legal referral service for the more than 250 people and organizations who weekly seek a referral to an attorney in their area who subscribes to CLS' Statement of Faith. Through its Center for Law and Religious Freedom - (CLRF or The Center)Division, CLS litigates for and defends religious freedom and the sanctity of human life in the courts, Congress, state legislatures, and federal, state and local government agencies.
