Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
The goal of SSP is to provide a managed and complete response system of services for individuals 55+ and having the greatest economic and social needs.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
The evolution of services and expansion of programs over our agencies' history are in response to the changing needs of seniors and our service area. 45 years ago SSP established several programs which provide basic community based services for at risk seniors for nutrition, in-home care and community engagement. These include such as Homemaker services, Transportation, Meals on Wheels, Congregate Dining Services, Community Care Program and the Foster Grandparent Program. Over the past 10 years SSP has developed a community center that focuses on more active seniors, baby boomers and the community which included a restaurant, catering services, Wellness Center and organic farm. These services have not only attacked baby boomers but developed revenue streams outside of government funding which support our mission driven services.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
SSP is the largest provider of services for seniors in our region and is recognized as the leader in aging due to our innovative model that is unparalleled in our region. For the past 45 years SSP has been developing and meeting the needs of adults as they age in a five county Southwest Illinois region that is part of the St. Louis Metropolitan area. These counties include Madison, St. Clair, Clinton, Marion and Macoupin. SSP is located at 2603 North Rodgers Avenue, Alton, IL in a 22,680 square foot renovated elementary school that serves as the headquarters. SSP partners with over 35 different agencies in providing services and reaches out to 10,000 seniors every two months with our newsletter to inform them of services.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
SSP conducts a multitude of programming, including Meals-on-Wheels, in-home care, congregate dining and a Health and Wellness Center, to name a few, that collectively serve 3,000 people a day. SSP believes that a key factor of healthy aging is access to affordable wellness. In 07' we developed a low cost alternative for individuals as they age, allowing them to engage in preventative wellness activities. The Pathways To Wellness Capitol Improvement project is the result of intensive planning and completion of a 2012 feasibility study. The Wellness Expansion project is $2.2Mil and will be completed by December 18' and includes a 5,417 open fitness room with walking track, over 60 pieces of fitness equipment and a 2,419 sq. ft. classroom.
This project is based on the agency's strategic goals in this case preparing for a minimal 30% increase, in our county wide senior population by 2030, in 2019 SSP will engage in strategic planning for residential development.
