What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Medical Care and Health Education
FOTCOH serves 15,000+ Haitian people each year. For nearly 30 years, Friends of the Children of Haiti has provided healthcare and hope to the people of Haiti. FOTCOH provides year-round medical services as well as community education and hygiene programs in Cyvadier, Haiti. FOTCOH’s staff and devoted volunteers treat medical conditions including hypertension, diabetes, asthma, pregnancy, severe skin infections, and burn injuries, as well as malnutrition in children.
FOTCOH also leads hygiene and health programs in the community. Through our WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) Program, we teach proper handwashing techniques, provide access to clean water, build latrines, and promote proper sanitation practices.
WASH
FOTCOH's Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) program provides expertise and interventions aimed at saving lives and reducing illness by improving access to healthy and safe water, adequate sanitation and improved hygiene. The WASH program is an opportunity for volunteers to travel to rural communities to teach, support, and educate them about safe and effective practices.
Urgent Care Clinics
FOTOCH’s Weekly Urgent Care in Cyvadier serves a variety of common medical issues including burn care, infections, malnutrition, viruses, fever, skin issues, wound care, and more. The Weekly Urgent Care is open every Saturday, allowing Haitians to seek medical care on a consistent basis beyond the larger Vital Health Clinics. The Weekly Urgent Care ensures that disease treatments, prevention, and education are accessible to Haitians that would otherwise not have regular access to medical care.
Surgery
A large part of FOTCOH's mission is to help Haitians who may be in need of surgical procedures. FOTCOH covers all surgical fees including the operating room rental, paying for the services of an anesthesiologist, and the cost of all necessary supplies. One American surgian has performed over 2,000 surgeries.
