ART ROAD NONPROFIT CORPORATION
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
By bringing art class back to schools, Art Road is putting art instruction and creativity into our 1,600+ students normal school day. Principals have said attendance goes up on art days because kids don't want to miss art class.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Art Road Art Program
Art Road provides art instructors, art materials, volunteers and guest artists, art program coordination; along with field trips, and "Careers in Art", a program where professionals such as Automotive Designers, Glass Blowers, and others come into art class and teach what they do as a career, as an art lesson, and how art relates to their profession to our students. We also do at least one "Signature" art project a year where all three schools work on the same art project that is then part of an exhibition .
We do our art program all school year long to schools that lack art in their curriculum.
We have established and dedicated art rooms at Thomas Edison Elementary School, Charles Wright Academy of Arts & Sciences and Charles L. Spain Elementary School. The Teachers are required to be present with their students in art class, and many do the projects along with the students.

Goals & Strategy
Learn about the organization's key goals, strategies, capabilities, and progress.
Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Our Goal is to spark the minds of the next generation of "creatives" and by working together, we will help children achieve their goals, realize their dreams, and become more creative, positive, and productive adults. To continue to provide the Art Road Art Program in schools that lack art in their curriculum in Detroit Public Elementary Schools, and then reaching out to other Public schools in Southeastern Michigan.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
To build upon Art Road's 10 year track record. To work with the board to create and implement a strategic plan for the next 3-5 years. As part of the strategic plan, to grow our organizational capacity to ensure we maintain our high level of Artistic excellence that we provide to schools and increase awareness in the local community. Use our survey feedback data from principals, teachers, students, volunteers, and guest artists to continue to refine and improve our Art Program to provide the best possible program and create a model that will propel us forward. Continue to educate our board in Visioning, refine our single unified Vision for Art Road and it's Art Program and bring the Vision to reality. Grow the board and our advisors with passionate professionals who use art in their careers, and believe in our mission to bring art class back to schools.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Our capabilities to accomplish our goals are based on the deep relationships we have established with our schools, donors, volunteers, guest artists, and our network of professional advisors who provide support and expertise across a wide area. This provides a foundation upon which to grow in terms of expanding our Art Program to additional public schools. By providing Vision training to the board, we create a unified Vision that in conjunction with our strategic plan will provide a road map to success.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
We have sparked the minds of over 6,500 students through art class over 10 years. This has led to increased attendance and decreased behavioral issues as reported by the principals and teachers. Students tell us in their own words that having art class makes them want to come to school and helps provide skills they can use in other subjects. Art Road has earned the trust of our schools and donors in our Art Program by remaining true to our mission, vision, and principles.
We have accomplished a deep and rich art program model that is successful to the point where schools from across the country are contacting us unsolicited to bring the Art Program to them. Art Road has provided Vision training to our board to create a unified Vision of what and where Art Road should be, and our board is working together to accomplish that Vision. We have continued to grow our board with passionate professionals who share our Mission and Vision.
What we haven't accomplished so far:
A larger infrastructure with additional staff. We have not reached exponential growth across Detroit and Southeastern Michigan.
