What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Education
The BBAC's programming provides a phenomenal breadth and depth of art opportunities to Southeast Michigan communities. About 500 classes, plus spring/summer youth art camps, are offered over four annual terms for individuals ages three and up, including senior citizens. The BBAC provides more than 1,100 hours of art education each month (except for summers, which vary with short -term adult workshops and many youth art camps}, providing scheduling flexibility for a variety of students. Levels of instruction for adults range from introductory to expert.
The BBAC faculty (more than 75 highly respected artists) is the organization's greatest asset in providing high quality visual arts programming. Programs offered are based on research of higher-level visual arts education and other art centers, as well as requests by students and community members. The BBAC requires instructors to: develop a repertoire of teaching strategies appropriate to the needs of all students, as students have different cultural backgrounds and learning styles; possess strong studio skills and a well-developed understanding of their own art-making processes, qualities, and techniques; demonstrate an understanding of artistic development as a complex multidimensional process; and collaborate with other educators. Many artist-instructors also teach at College for Creative Studies, Wayne State University, and the University of Michigan. The BBAC offers outstanding technical studio art instruction, conceptual development through lectures, participation in class critiques, and exhibitions.
