Mission

The purpose of the R. E. Olds Transportation Museum is to collect, preserve, study and exhibit those objects that will serve to illustrate the part Lansing played in the development of transportation, with special emphasis on the automobile and its effect on the community and its people.

The Museum will collect transportation specimens that depict the area’s past in terms of the development of the industry which brought profound change to this area and the nation.

The Museum will provide for the preservation of such material and its availability to all those who wish to see and study it. The Museum will be a non-profit, educational establishment, operated for the community’s betterment and open to the public.

The Museum will disseminate knowledge and stimulate interest through materials, publications, information services and otherwise, by holding meetings and by arranging special programs for the furtherance of the purpose of the Museum.

The Museum will cooperate with other museums in the area to collect and preserve transportation items of significance so that they may be preserved and aid in the advancement of knowledge of the area’s contribution to the development of transportation.
