Cyber Safety Program

Based on the belief that teens listen to teens, our Internet Safety Program uses a peer-to-peer mentoring approach with area middle and high school students to instruct about the potential risks of the Internet and using it safely. Presentations are also provided at parent/community sessions to help caregivers encourage safe and positive behaviors as kids connect to the online world. WACC also has a Cyberbullying and Bullying prevention program which is offered to schools as part of the Cyber Safety program.

Population(s) Served

Each year, more infants die as the result of unsafe sleep environments than any other preventable cause. Our public awareness/education campaign gives parents, caregivers and those who work with infants and families the life-saving information needed to eliminate this preventable loss from our communities.Shaken Baby Syndrome Awareness is also part of the Safe Baby program. All babies cry, but when it is constant it can lead to feelings of
immense stress, frustration and inadequacy in caregivers. This can lead
to the physical response of shaking a baby. Our prevention classes at
high schools and babysitting classes offer effective education on the
risks of shaken baby syndrome as well as constructive methods for
calming babies.

To prevent child sexual abuse, children need basic knowledge about appropriate and inappropriate touching at an early age. Through an age-appropriate and evidence-based curriculum we work closely with area preschools to educate children about personal safety and provide skills for them to prevent and report abuse.

This is a child sexual awareness program that is designed to train adults. This is an evidence based nationally recognized program started by Darkness to Light. It teaches adults what is child sexual abuse, how to recognize the signs and what to do.

This program is presented as a stand alone or with the CyberSafety workshops. Participants are taught how to recognize, react and take action to prevent CyberBullying and Bullying.

In 2020-2021, our ability to serve the community was severely diminished due to the effects of COVID-19. Staff were furloughed and let go during this period as well which impacted this number.

The Board engaged in a rigorous assessment and planning process to create a Strategic Plan in 2020 that will be up dated annually. In 2021 all goals and strategies were kept. The following Goals include:

1. Program Focus - All programs will provide services that are at capacity and assess needs
and gaps annually.
2. Marketing - We will establish and implement a comprehensive brand strategy.
3. Growth and Sustainability - We will continually strengthen and cultivate the agency to fully meet the needs of the community.
4. Diversity and Equitability - We will continually strengthen and enhance the culture of our agency.

1.1 Conduct environmental scan of child abuse related programs available in Washtenaw County.
1.2 Collect data and evaluate total potential population to be served.
1.3 Evaluate community partnerships - schools, agencies, donors, volunteers
1.4 Establish annual growth goals for current programs

2.1 Conduct inventory of current marketing plans and strategies
2.2 Establish a brand strategy which will include brand consistency (Awareness/Favorability/Loyalty), Social Media engagement, Donor expansion, and strategic partnerships

3.1 Capacity: Define, revise and set formula for staff and program capacity annually - Ensure accountability to Agency staff and Board. Include in individual program goals annually. Program Dashboard presented quarterly.
3.2 Financial: Annually the Executive Committee will assess and establish financial goals for growth. Assess and plan for diversification in funding.
3.3 Collaborative/Partners: Establish within our marketing plan and program focus an annual assessment and deliverables for partnerships

4.1 Provide diversity education to all staff and board members annually.
4.2 Diversify methods for program delivery.
4.3 Recruitment: Be intentional in all our efforts for staff, board, and volunteer recruitment, and program implementation that is inclusive and equitable.

WACC is also an integral part of several community collaboratives - Success by Six Collaborative; Washtenaw Alliance for Children and Youth; Resilience Washtenaw; Washtenaw ALIVE; Human Trafficking Alliance; and is the lead for the Washtenaw County Infant Mortality Coalition and the Washtenaw County Safe Sleep Task Force.

1. Engaged Board, staff, interns, and volunteers who participate in all committees - Executive, Program, Evaluation, Outreach, Events, and newly formed Diversity and Inclusion (2021)
2. Engage in several modes of social media and marketing techniques to establish and expand brand.
3. Produce and release at least 1 newsletter per month to keep community connected to purpose.
4. Strong partnership with NAMI and Washtenaw ALIVE (Suicide Prevention)
5. Executive Director is on Leadership committee for Success by Six and Washtenaw Alliance for Children and youth
6. WACC Chairs the Washtenaw County Safe Sleep Task Force
