Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
It is the goal that each family that comes to Haven House will move into permanent housing from the shelter. We also want families to maintain their housing by providing supportive services in their new home. 91% of families remained housed after 8 months.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
We believe the only way to end the homeless situation is to find housing. Each family is required to meet each day with a case manager to discuss their housing and employment search and any barriers they are encountering. Staff is able to assist with barriers and keep the family on track to quickly moving from homelessness to housed. By providing daily case management focused on housing, it allows family to keep moving forward in their goal in ending their homelessness.
Statistically, families are at most risk of losing their new permanent home with the the first three months. Because of this, we provide in-home case management for 6-12 months after leaving shelter and moving into a home. Families are provided with non-foodstamp items to assist the family with stability while also working with them on budgeting and goals.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Haven House has provided services to homeless families since 1983. We have educated well trained staff that work with our families. We have a well documented program that has proven effective through our statistics. We utilize our logic model in training our staff. Our organization is part of the local continuum of care, the Greater Lansing Homeless Resolution Network where more than 25 agencies collaborate to end homelessness in our area.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
We continue to provide emergency shelter to families. Our shelter is full every day of the year. We continue to maintain a 60% success rate of families moving into housing and families staying housed more than 6 months remains above 90%.
We have not been able to raise sufficient sustainable funding for rapid re-housing in order to assist more families within the shelter.
