Child Abuse Prevention Education (CAPE)

The CAN Council’s CAPE programs work to find ways to prevent child abuse through education.

Population(s) Served
Children and youth
Parents

Specially trained volunteers advocating for children who are in foster care due to abuse or neglect.  These volunteers are sworn in as officers of the court.

Population(s) Served
Children and youth
Parents

CAN Council's Children’s Advocacy Centers provide a safe, supportive environment in which children who have been physically or sexually abused or have witnessed a violent act can be interviewed and examined.

In the past, a child may have been interviewed by as many as 13 professionals in different locations – in the back of a police car, at school or even in the emergency room. This has changed with access to the Children’s Advocacy Centers. A child is now interviewed only once, in a child-friendly environment, by a specially trained forensic interviewer.
