Mission

The Michigan Women's Foundation (MWF) was created in 1986 to respond to the significant barriers and challenges that prohibit women and girls from reaching their full potential and to create a permanent financial resource for programs that help Michigan's women and girls. MWF promotes economic self-sufficiency and personal well being for women and girls to maximize their contributions to society. MWF provides assistance and funds to nonprofit organizations serving women and girls; educates the public, policy makers and donors about the needs of women and girls; and encourages women and girls to exercise their responsibilities as philanthropists.

Our programs

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

MWF supports a variety of projects that might not otherwise receive funding from more traditional sources. Individual grants range from $1000 to $50,000. MWF also provides assistance to women and girls organizations and educates grant makers and other groups about the needs of Michigan's women and girls. Funding priorities include economic self-sufficiency for women and public policy and leadership development around the needs of women and girls. In addition to its regular grant making, MWF developed Young Women for Change, a girls-as-grantmakers program in which teen-aged girls in select areas distribute $20,000 per year in grants.
