Yatooma's Foundation For The Kids
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
One in 20 children have lost a parent. This creates a significant amount of trauma for that child. Many times, it creates financial burdens on top of grief that were not there before. Families are left with little guidance and support on how to navigate through the grief process and also "life" as it was known before.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Social Events
Each month we provide a social event for the children and their guardian in our program to get together and just be kids again and build lasting relationships. This provides an opportunity for the families to be with others who have suffered the same type of loss.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Yatooma’s Foundation For The Kids is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing guidance, stability, and financial assistance to families with children who have lost one or both parents. This all-too-common tragedy transcends the lines of race, religion, and status and often forces children to prematurely assume the burden of adult responsibility.
In addition to immediate financial resources for living expenses, Yatooma’s Foundation For The Kids attempts to provide at least some semblance of the parent’s mentoring hand, now reduced to memories and photographs.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
We provide financial assistance to qualifying families who have sustained financial burdens due to the loss of the parent. We are able to guide families through the process of getting social security established, guardianship (if appropriate), etc. We also provide monthly family events where kids can be with other kids who have experienced the same loss in order to form life-long bonds and know that they are not alone. We are able to adopt families for Christmas so that good memories can be formed during what can be a very difficult season of grief. We customize our program offerings to the situations. We have resources for therapy, camps, and other healing programs specifically for children that have lost a parent.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Our staff is able to provide expertise for walking through many of the processes necessary after a death. We have collaborated with many community organizations that specialize in therapeutic programs. Through the generosity of donors, we are able to provide financial support to qualifying families that are struggling directly due to the loss of a parent. We are able to provide a listening ear and support for parents, grandparents, guardians, and children who are dealing with this tragedy and trying to deal with day-to-day life at the same time.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Our program services continue to grow to serve more children. We are working to increase funding to be able to have a center where families can come for services and support.
