What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
City Connect Detroit intends to continue its rich involvement in youth employment and training during the coming years. At the same time, the agency will look to extend its work to include additional community change initiatives. Immediate goals are to:
- Help 8,000 Detroit youth gain employment and training in 2016
- Launch a YouthBuild training program for the hardest to serve youth
- Continue to build a system of employment and training for young adults
- Identify new community initiatives to support
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
City Connect Detroit engages in myriad strategies to realize its goals. In particular, the organization has the following core strategies:
- Provide intermediary services to community change efforts, including fiduciary services, grant writing, and technical development.
- Scan for funding opportunities that can assist Detroit and Michigan-based groups to attract local, state, and national grants and funding for community change.
- Facilitate, manage, and lead community change initiatives
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
City Connect Detroit is staffed by a small team of nonprofit experts. The organization is especially skilled at program design/development, group facilitation, fundraising, and collaborative change practice.
Among its cultural qualities, City Connect Detroit is known for its flexibility and ability to get the job done quickly. The agency is known to develop funding proposals and put resources on the ground quickly. It is able to do this because of its skilled staff team, but also because of its approach to rapid scaling, through a robust network of expert consultants and community partners.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
City Connect Detroit continues to develop a system of young adult employment and training in Detroit. Though the system is operational, its ultimate sustainability remains a work in progress.
