Wine Country Marines
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
There are many gaps in the services provided to our military and veterans community. There is what the DoD can provide, there is what the VA can provide. Or once they transition, what their employers can provide. We at Wine Country Marines fill the gaps in coverage. We assist with veterans unemployment, homelessness, PTSD, Suicide Rate Reduction, Enrollment of Healthcare, Obtaining the benefits they've earned and of course emergency relief when disaster strikes.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Wounded, Injured and Ill Service Member Support
Providing financial and other tangible support to our wounded, injured and ill service members and their families.
PTSD/Veteran Suicide Prevention
We aim to reduce, if not stop veterans suicides completely. We are handling this in a multi prong approach.
1. Stats show that of women veterans who commit suicide, over 98% are not engaged in the VA. For male veterans its about 57%.
2. Our plan is to engage them in the VA. To go out, find them, mentor them, and bring them in.
3. We plan on creating educational programs for Law Enforcement so that when they do engage with veterans in crisis, they are better equipped to end it peacefully. and to train them on the tools they have available instead of incarceration. Such as the VA in patient clinics.

Goals & Strategy
Learn about the organization's key goals, strategies, capabilities, and progress.
Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
1. Reduce the Veterans Suicide Rate, with an end goal of complete elimination.
2. Reduce or end Veterans Homelessness
3. Improve the relationships between the community and Veterans.
4. Ease the transition for military service members and veterans as they return to the community.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
1. Create and Manage Law Enforcement Training Programs for dealing with the Veterans in the community when crisis strikes.
2. Engage the Veterans with the VA. Statistics have shown that of the female veterans that commit suicide 98% were not engaged in the VA.
3. Studies also show that over 50% of male veterans that commit suicide are not engaged in the VA.
4. So we have created, and will continue to create outreach programs to find the veterans, engage them, and bring them into the VA.
5. While engaging the veterans, we assess their whole health situation, to determine if financial, homelessness or other concerns are prevalent.
6. We work with Cities, Counties, Corporate Partners and others to create mentoring and job training and recruitment programs.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Our board and membership is very diverse. We have Lawyers, Judges, Computer Software Engineers, Funeral Directors, Pastors, CEO's, Electricians and more available. We are all veterans, and we've worked it, we've lived it, and we use our first hand knowledge and extensive network to bring the resources directly to the veterans. We have a tremendous success rate, and are often the first persons called by a law enforcement task force when dealing with a veteran in crisis.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
We're recently completely our first phase of training for Law Enforcements Officers interacting with Veterans in Crisis. It was a huge success, and within 1 week, we saved 3 veterans who were in crisis and were facing suicide as their only perceived option. We've received calls from Police Academies to make this a standard course in the academy and we are exploring ways to make that happen.
