What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Each year in North America, more than 6 million pets enter shelters and nearly 1 million of them are euthanized. With increasing housing restrictions, lack of access to veterinary care and rising inflation, shelters are desperate for solutions to avoid having to euthanize adoptable pets. Additionally, pet owners are struggling to keep their beloved pets in their homes.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

BISSELL Pet Foundation is a national animal welfare organization dedicated to ending pet homelessness.
In partnership with shelters across the country and by providing much-needed resources to underserved communities, BISSELL Pet Foundation is reducing the number of animals in shelters and rescues through our pet adoption, transport, spay/neuter, vaccination, microchipping, and crisis and disaster response programs. As a hands-on foundation, we are committed to understanding the needs of different geographic areas, knowing our partners, and working together to create the best possible outcomes through grant funding for programs and initiatives that directly impact homeless pets.

Spay & Neuter
BISSELL Pet Foundation stops cats and dogs from multiplying by providing grant funding to spay/neuter pets in shelters, supporting Trap-Neuter-Return programs, and sponsoring high-impact, community spay/neuter
clinics.

Empty the Shelters
BPF’s Empty the Shelters is the largest funded adoption event in the country. This national quarterly event enables hundreds of participating shelters in 48 states to offer fee-waived or reduced-fee adoption by providing reimbursement for each pet adopted. Additional emergency events are scheduled as needed.

Crisis & Disaster Response
BPF’s Animal Incident Management (AIM) arm responds to the most urgent situations when pets desperately
need lifesaving care. From pre-event planning to post-event recovery, animal search and rescue, shelter
support, transport and mass care/humanitarian efforts, AIM responds when other organizations cannot.

Transport
BISSELL Pet Foundation relocates adoptable pets using ground and air transport to support shelters in need,
puppy mill rescues, large-scale cruelty cases and disaster response. BPF handles logistics such as navigating
state-level compliance, vaccines, health certificates and placement with destination shelters nationwide.

Vaccines
BISSELL Pet Foundation’s vaccine initiative protects shelter and community pets from needlessly contracting life-threatening illnesses such as feline leukemia, distemper, parvo and rabies. This program is proven to foster healthier shelter populations and family pets.

Veterinary Program
BPF contracts with numerous veterinarians to provide spay/neuter, vaccines and microchips to shelters and
underserved communities across the country. Both shelter and community owned pets are impacted through this program.

Healing Heartworm
BISSELL Pet Foundation’s Healing Heartworm program brings hope to homeless dogs by providing grants to shelters for the testing, treatment and prevention of this deadly disease.

Grateful Pets
The Grateful Pet program gives deserving shelter pets their best chance to heal and find loving homes by providing
funding up to $2,500 for veterinary care including surgery, rehabilitation, or major dental work.

Microchipping
BISSELL Pet Foundation provides microchips to partners to ensure that each pet we impact through Empty the
Shelters, Spay/Neuter, and vaccine clinics, has this lifesaving identification and lifetime registration.

As of September, 2023, more than 706,527 pets have been impacted by BISSELL Pet Foundation since 2011. BISSELL Pet Foundation's programs are proven lifesaving tools to end pet homelessness.
