Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Through cooperative efforts between churches of many denominations and dozens of community strengthening local non-profits our goal is to provide an annual gathering of all the churches in the area to partner with the non-profits in providing services and volunteering for service opportunities.
Additionally, we aim through the music festival to lift God's music in the atmosphere of our region and let it accomplish a great work in the hearts and minds of all people.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Annually we organize an all day free to the public family friendly Christian music festival capped off with a national Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) headliner. To bring in families, we block the streets off around the city square and load in inflatable fun for children. This coupled with plenty of music for adults draws in the community.
By offering very inexpensive booth space to local non-profits (free if necessary) we encourage participation of non-profits from addiction recovery to stopping human trafficking. Having them in the same location give the non-profits opportunities to provide services and for the community attending to volunteer at any of the represented non-profits.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We are entering the planning phase for year five of Praise in the Park. After operating as a fiscal sponsored event for the first 4 years we are now a new independent corporation with all the experience gained in putting on four years of the event previously.
The independent corporation has greater a appeal of unity to the whole community than when we were sponsored by one of our partner churches. This autonomy is expected to increase giving by at least 10% since donations are now accepted directly by Praise in the Park and not a specific church.
With a volunteer base of over 150 people including the board and officers who are also volunteers and a partnership with the city that hosts the event we are positioned to continue this effort for as long as we feel called by God to do so.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
We have been blessed to have four consecutive, successful years of the event thus far. 2014 with Matt Maher, 2015 with Lincoln Brewster, 2016 with Mandisa, and 2017 with Citizen way.
Attendance has grown each year with the exception of 2017 (it was 103°F) even then same day donations per person were up 2017 over previous years.
Non-Profit attendance is up from 20 in 2014 to 30 in 2017
Valley Church financial participation is up from 5 in 2014 to 15 in 2017
Over 70 churches were represented in the attendees in 2016 (still waiting for 2017 results)
What's next is to begin fundraising for the perpetuation of the event in 2018 and beyond. We believe we are doing good in the community and are excited that individuals from around the world have reached out for advice on beginning a similar event in their city. People from Canada, South Africa, Ireland, and several from other parts of the United States are interested in our model. We would love to partner with them in achieving their goal to host a Praise in the Park type event where they live.
