Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Therapeutic Riding Program
In Therapeutic riding, many riders experience a connection to the horse that few sports can create. For those riders who cannot walk, the horse is their vehicle of transport. Not only does this help raise their self-esteem but it also teaches them essential skills such as overcoming fears and anxieties. It improves balance, creates trust and creates a friendship between rider and horse. The benefits of horseback riding are as numerous as the types of disabilities and conditions served. Because horseback riding gently and rhythmically moves the rider’s body in a manner similar to a human gait, riders with physical disabilities often show improvement in flexibility, balance and muscle strength.
Some of the most common benefits reported include increased physicality, improved focus and attention, modification of inappropriate behaviors and increased social interaction and communication. The unique movement and sensory stimulation of the horse affects the success of this program as well as the supportive environment of our facility and the increased motivation of the Rider to participate and complete the structured activities and exercises in the riding class setting.
Classes are offered 5 days per week in group, semi-private and private classes.
Equine Assisted Learning (EAL)
REINS works with schools to identify "at risk" students who will benefit from Equine Assisted Learning classes from May through September to bridge the summer learning gap. REINS does not turn away any Therapeutic Riding participant because of inability to pay. 70% of our riders receive tuition scholarships. Tuition covers 30% of the cost of the lesson. We have developed a community and business support to provide this therapy to all who are recommend to our program.
Participants physical, emotional and developmental goals are tracked and progress is monitored and report to families and other supervising professionals throughout the season. Equine therapy is proven to be effective for persons with a number of disabling conditions including autism, ADHD, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, motor and speech delays, Down's syndrome, traumatic brain injuries and PTSD. We serve all of these population.

- We help senior leadership understand how to be inclusive leaders with learning approaches that emphasize reflection, iteration, and adaptability.
- We engage everyone, from the board to staff levels of the organization, in race equity work and ensure that individuals understand their roles in creating culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
