Programs and results

What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

We envision an Africa free from hunger, poised to feed the world. We create opportunities across Africa for rural entrepreneurs with tools and services to efficiently process, save, and sell more food. Small businesses and farmers increase their incomes, more jobs are created, and Africa feeds herself and the world.

Our programs

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Mavuno Bora

"Mavuno Bora" or "Better Harvest" in Swahili works with rural entrepreneurs to develop fee-for-service businesses to provide postharvest processing to smallholder farmers across Kenya. This creates much-needed access to mechanization for farmers, steering away from manual labor, and helps them to save time and labor, improve food quality, decrease food loss and increase incomes for both the entrepreneur and the farmers that they serve. Our program impacts predominately women as they are the ones who are traditionally responsible for postharvest labor and lack resources for support. We pay particular attention to women and youth entrepreneurs to emphasize inclusive growth opportunities to expand their agribusinesses, created jobs and postharvest support for rural communities.

Since the program started in 2020, we have served over 10,000 farmers, saved over 55,000 hours of labor, and processed over 2 million kg of crops, equitable to enough food to feed 33,000 Kenyans for an entire year

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

By 2025, our goal is reach millions of farmers, entrepreneurs, consumers with postharvest solutions that increase the efficiency of processing crops and creating valuable food products.

Bountifield's strategy is to partner with the African private sector, local entrepreneurs, and smallholder farmers to create holistic, sustainable solutions that will impact generations.

Bountifield has partnered numerous foundations and government entities to implement programs in target countries and regions. In addition, we have full-time local staff in Kenya and Malawi.

Over four decades, Bountifield/CTI tools have positively impacted over 1 million people in over 50 countries.
