What we aim to solve
The goals of The Hope Center is to help meet the nutritional, physical and spiritual needs of those in our community that can not or have not been able to do that for themselves for whatever reason. Due to economic circumstances of our nation, families in Kern County rank #1 in Food Hardship. The Hope Center provides food and clothing to an average of 90,000 people annually. We Stand in the Gap serving others who are on the brink of homelessness.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Food Ministry
Providing food and clothing at no cost to those families in need within Kern County. The Hope Center is open 4 days per week, Tue-Fri, from 9:30am to 1:00pm. Not only are we providing for the basic need but we offer spiritual comfort to those in distress from health, economic, or relationship issues. We Stand in the Gap serving those who are on the brink of homelessness.
Community Action Partnership of Kern Food Bank
The CAPK provides The Hope Center enough food to feed 1,600 families each month. We are listed on their website as a distribution site on Wed. & a pantry site M,T,Th & F.
Infant/Children's Pantry
This program was initially started by a grant submission thru United Way but is now self funding thru donors. Any family we service with children ages 0-5 are now eligible for food that is age appropriate. We have cans of Enfamil for babies still on formula, baby food and cereal for infants, and for children ages 1-5 we have Peanut Butter, Crackers, Applesauce, Instant Oatmeal, Mac & Cheese, Soup & cans of Spaghetti & Meatballs. We have been able to stretch our grant money farther because churches and other organizations have had Enfamil and food drives to help in our efforts to zero in on the nutritional needs of children ages 0-5.
Discipleship
Free will Bible Study every Wednesday.
Clothing Ministry
Free clothing to each person who comes in for food. Everyone is given ample time to browse our clothing racks before leaving.
Dignity Health Network Health Screening
Dignity Health provides free Health Screenings on Wednesdays. In 2019, 123 people were served by this ministry.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Sharing the Hope of Christ while assisting with food, clothing, and basic needs. The Hope Center stands in the gap between those who actually are homeless to serve those who are on the brink of homelessness.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
We are a 100 percent donor driven charity relying on the hearts of people to donate to our cause of providing basic needs for those that need assistance. In 2020 and 2021 we provided assistance to over 80,000 people each year.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We rent a 6000 square foot facility with only one paid employee, our Director, running the operation. We are open four days a week with volunteers serving in our food, clothing, prayer, and Bible study stations. The Food Bank provides most of the donate food and private donors fill in the special needs.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
The needs of the community continue to grow with more and more homelessness and hunger. By the grace of God we have been able each year to keep pace with the growth with the help of our generous private donors. In 2019 we were able to rebuild our freezers, which have not been working since 2017, so we now have cold food storage. This storage capability enables us to bless others frozen food products including meats, frozen juices, etc.
