What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
The Development of Dodoma Christian Medical Center
Tanzania Health Partnership was established in order to help found and support Dodoma Christian Medical Center (DCMC) in Dodoma, Tanzania. Our mission is to raise financial support, develop collaborative partnerships, and engage medical and lay volunteers to enable DCMC to accomplish its mission of providing sustainable, quality health care to the people of Central Tanzania. DCMC is an institution established on 300 acres of land on the outskirts of Dodoma (pop. 500,000), the growing capital of Tanzania. It is a 50-bed designated zonal hospital providing specialty care in dentistry, obstetrics and gynecology, internal medicine, surgery, physiotherapy, pediatrics and more. DCMC also conducts expansive community health education and outreach efforts in the surrounding villages.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Our mission is to support compassionate, Tanzanian-led healthcare at Dodoma Christian Medical Center (DCMC), which is located in the capital city of Dodoma. We support DCMC through partnership development, fundraising for general program costs, and volunteer engagement.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Through events, major gift efforts, grants and more, we regularly raise funds via individual donors, foundations, churches and other organizations. For every dollar raised by DTHD, $.92 helps to support DCMC programs.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
On an ongoing basis, DTHD’s staff and board support vital relationships with donors, universities, corporations, foundations and more, and oversee volunteer exchanges that help support the capacity-building needs at the medical center. DTHD also implements fundraising and communication strategies to raise funds and build awareness, and representatives of DTHD regularly visit the medical center in Tanzania. As a guiding principle, DTHD’s strategies for engagement are always developed in close collaboration with DCMC’s Board of Trustees and its Director, Professor Charles Majinge, MD, to support the medical center’s goals and objectives for patient care, growth, and long-term sustainability.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
DCMC is a well-established 50-bed hospital that treated 100,000 patients last year, and its dental clinic is considered the finest in the country. The medical center has specialists in ob/gyn, pediatrics, surgery, internal medicine, dermatology and pathology, and is a leader in providing maternal and healthcare, in particular. Currently, the medical center is the facility of choice for women with high-risk pregnancies and performs around 1,000 deliveries per year, more than most rural and suburban hospitals in Minnesota. More than 50% of deliveries are c-section, due to the complexity of cases and the medical center’s reputation for maternal and infant care. In addition, more than 5,000 children under the age of 5 were treated last year, and more than 43,000 vaccinations were provided. DCMC also conducts expansive community health outreach to bring care where it’s needed most – in poor rural villages.
DCMC is discussing expansion opportunities for its facility and strategically hiring key staff and specialists to continue meeting the growing demand for patient care. Its dental and community health outreach programs are expanding their reach into the broader region to bring health and hope to more people.
