Summit Art Festival
Our organization's signature event, the Summit Art Festival, is an annual, outdoor, three-day, high-quality, juried fine art event held in the historic downtown district of Lee's Summit, Missouri. Featuring over 100 artists from all over the country, visitors will enjoy a unique blend of art, music and food. The Student Art Pavilion showcases over 350 works of art created by local middle and high school students. The StuckOnArt live competition happens on Saturday at the main intersection of the festival site where teams of art students create original works of art on large canvases using only black masking tape as the medium.
Entertaining non-amplified music is provided by several local musicians throughout the entire weekend at two performance locations showcasing local songwriters. Unique food and beverage vendors offer delicious treats. The festival is organized and managed by an experienced team of artists and volunteers with over 30 years of event experience.
The festival provides a unique cultural arts experience for both artists and patrons. This fine art event provides visitors a wonderful opportunity to explore diverse talents of world-class national and regional artists. There is something artfully fresh for the whole family!
Summit Art Gallery at Saint Luke's East Hospital
The Summit Art Gallery is the largest fine art gallery in eastern Jackson County. The gallery displays over 300 artworks, representing over 80 participating members of Summit Art. All artwork is available for purchase. Smaller items by the artists are also for sale in the Saint Luke’s East Hospital Gift Shop.
Summit Art operates the Summit Art Gallery at Saint Luke's East Hospital, a non-profit gallery dedicated to enriching the cultural landscape of residents of Lee's Summit and suburban Jackson County through art exhibition, education and professional artist development. Summit Art provides visual art education education to its members, adults, children, and under-served citizens. Summit Art also conducts business, holds meetings and stores supplies at this gallery. The gallery hosts monthly exhibitions and opportunities for professional and emerging artists. The gallery allows Summit Art to offer internships, mentoring programs, and student exhibit opportunities. Summit Art occasionally hosts regional and national artist talks, demonstrations, artist workshops and professional artist development sessions.
Summit Art Plein Air Festival
Summit Art hosts its annual Plein Air Festival in late Spring each year bringing in artists from all across the country for several days of painting "en plein air", or outdoors. Artists with all levels of experience spend time at Crestview Dairy, a 31-acre historic property in Lee's Summit, and in downtown, Lee's Summit's entertainment and historic district to paint "live" both during daylight and nighttime (nocturne). The public is invited to explore the historic dairy property and visit all the venues in downtown as they watch the artists paint the scenes before them. The event culminates in an Art Show & Sale, judging competition, and awards presentation where art patrons have the opportunity to collect artworks from prominent plein air painters.
The weekend-long event also features a Fine Art Photography Show & Sale, live musical performances, Kids Fishing Derby and casual street fare provided by food and beverage vendors.
