What we aim to solve
Wildwood Hills Ranch is a beautiful, 400-acre facility in Madison County where children at-risk experience hope and healing. • Nearly 9,000 Iowa youth are abused annually. • Children may suffer from poverty, physical and/or sexual abuse, neglect, parental drug and alcohol abuse, gang violence, instability in family relationships and the absence of one or both parents, and many are in foster care. • While we can't change their past, we can transform their future. The Ranch makes a 10-year commitment to each child at no cost to their family, serving over 1,000 students annually. • 50+ community partners (organizations that regularly engage and connect with students at-risk i.e. DHS, BBBS, local schools, etc.) across the state of Iowa that help us identify students who could benefit from our youth leadership development program. Our Next Steps Program prepares students for the next step in their lives in three areas—faith, leadership and life readiness.
Our programs

Youth Services & Education
Wildwood Hills Leadership Program year-round development training. Including summer programming which is conduct in week long sessions consisting of horseback riding, arts program, sports, and water activities to establish a focus on qualities of substance, and how to overcome and succeed through the challenges of life. The counselors establish one-on-one relationships with the kids, have discussion groups, role-play activities, confidence course events, and deal with daily life situations. Our second phase deals with the return of first year children. This process is to strengthen previous experiences and skills learned during the initial program. Our leadership programming is for 13-18 year-old's and is conducted year-round during monthly leadership retreats that focus on financial literacy training, resume writing, wood-working, welding, hospitality training and so much more.

What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Founded in 2001, Wildwood Hills Ranch is a beautiful, 400-acre facility in Madison County where children at-risk experience hope and healing. The Ranch makes a 10-year commitment to each child at no cost to their family, serving over 1,000 students annually. Our Next Steps Program prepares students for the next step in their lives in three areas—faith, leadership and life readiness—via our summer program, monthly retreats and equine therapy.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
• We offer a summer program, year-round monthly retreats and equine therapy. We focus on programming in the areas of: leadership, finance, agriculture, cooking/hospitality, wood-working, welding, horses/equine, aquatics, art, music & more..
• We equip students to finish high school and prepare for college or the workforce via the Ranch Education Network (partnered with DMACC) and the Ranch Employment Network.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We are a 400 acre facility with approximately 70 staff members during our busiest summer season. We have 6 rotations per day during summer programming covering the areas of : leadership, finance, agriculture, cooking/hospitality, wood-working, welding, horses/equine, aquatics, art, music & more. During the year, we have leadership retreats for our older students and we have a conference center that is available to rent by corporations, schools & churches. We also serve veterans through our therapy program and approximately 30 horses on site.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
We have been in operation since 2001 and have served thousands of children and hundreds of veterans through our programming. We have grown our staff, our facilities and our programming offerings. We want to build more buildings, housing and recreation equipment/buildings for the youth that we serve and continue to make an impact on youth, veterans and our surrounding communities.
