Bags4kids
Helping children...one bag at a time
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
Bags4kids provides dignity and comfort to the children they serve during a scary time in their lives. When they have lost their belongings and have to begin again-bags4kids provides them with new items they will need when going onto their new home. It could be a foster home, a relatives home or even a new home after a fire has taken their home. There are many situations in which bags4kids helps these children and their families. By providing these comfort bags we also help teachers, police officers and social workers show these children that others do care about them. It makes their job a little brighte
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Comfort Bags for displaced children
For a moment, imagine stepping into the shoes of a foster child. You have just been taken from your home, your family, your friends, and everything you know. A stranger puts you in a car headed for an unknown place filled with unfamiliar people and things. Leaving everything behind, you are left with absolutely nothing. No warm hugs or teddy bears to take comfort in, no clean clothes to change into, and often times, not even a toothbrush - just the clothes on your back.
You could be waiting for hours at a local police station or social worker's office before being moved by another stranger into another unfamiliar office or even a temporary foster home. At this time, you are terrified by your fear of the unknown and the uncertainty of your future. You have no books to read or a journal to write in to distract yourself from your scared thoughts or the pitying faces and whispers of the strangers that surround you. Now, imagine experiencing such intense fear, solitude, distress, and sadness when you are ONLY 4 years old.
Experiences like these are not just stories. Experiences like these are real children facing incredibly confusing and terrifyingly real circumstances. Experiences like these are the reasons that Bags4kids was founded - to provide some form of comfort to the scared and distressed children left with nothing after being removed from their homes and families.
Since its founding in 2002, Bags4kids has distributed over 27,000 bags to children, all filled with age/gender-appropriate items designed to comfort and entertain. Examples of these items are personal hygiene items, books to read or color, crayons, stuffed animals, school supplies, clothes, shoes, games, and blankets. These comfort bags are a blessing and allow for these children to have their own familiar belongings upon arrival at their new home.
Prom dresses/ winter coats/costumes
Over the years Bags4kids has added new programs. We have collection drives (and purchase some) of these items and then give them to foster children, head start preschools, low income families, schools and social workers to pass out.
Baby clothes/beds/diapers/food
Bags4kids gives much needed baby items to Social workers, new mom's in rehab and families in need.
Help for domestic violence victims
Bags4kids helps aquire clothes, shoes, hygiene items and small household items for victims starting over.

Goals & Strategy
Learn about the organization's key goals, strategies, capabilities, and progress.
Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Our biggest goal is to purchase a building in Los Angeles County so that social workers from Los Angeles and the Antelope Valley may come to us to get the items their client need at any time day or night.
Daily our goal is to stay open and never turn anyone away that needs our help.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Finding foundations that have large capacity grants and smaller ones in which we can purchase the supplies we need daily.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
To continue to get the word out to the public and share with them how we help. To get the community to help also and keep bags4kids in the public eye.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
When bags4kids began we only gave "comfort bags". Over the year we have added 5 new programs which helps more people, more families, more agencies.
