Academy of Science of St. Louis

Following its mission to improve science literacy in the St. Louis region, the Academy supports these major initiatives: Junior Academy of Science: a membership organization for students in grades 6-12 who are interested in science and engineering. Members learn from scientific field trips, meet with professional scientists and engineers, and earn annual science achievement awards. Greater St. Louis Science Fair: For 60 years, the Science Fair has been an amazing catalyst for students in kindergarten through high school. Hundreds of educators, professional scientists, and science advocates work year round to bring science inquiry to life for 55,000 students. Speakers for Science: A no-cost resource of more than 700 working scientists, medical specialists, engineers and science educators, from the public, private, and academic sectors. Schools request speakers on topics as varied as plant science, archaeology, genetics, and rainforest ecology. Science Seminar Series: free public lectures present topical issues in collaborative forums. Outstanding St. Louis Scientists Awards: The Academy annually honors the innovative and lifetime achievements of individual St. Louis scientists and engineers and those who by teaching or mentoring, increase science literacy. Academy Fellows: A brain trust of 120 renowned scientists and engineers. BioBlitz: Collaborative 24-hour survey of Forest Park's biodiversity.
