What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Code against Crime
Since summer 2017, numerous neighborhood and community members, local musicians/rappers, KCPD, government officials, concerned clergy, young people, educators, and concerned citizens have come together to talk, plan, grieve, and ultimately address the horrific 2017 Kansas City homicide rate as well as the destructive overall violence our community endures. This grassroots collection of individuals with diverse backgrounds implemented an action plan. On April 28, 2018, a Hip Hop “Teen Summit” identified 70 youth who interacted with musicians/rappers; signed-up with FEC, and participated in an healthy life skills program, Going Stronger Longer #80; This event culminated in a 30-minute concert and positive messaging by the local rappers (Popper, Don Juan, among others) for the young people. The Hip Hop Teen Summit started a year’s worth of youth development programming to reduce violence and substance abuse, build protective factors and create a healthy climate for entire neighborhoods.
Splash Mob
ArtsTech's "Splash Mob,” which consists of 25-30 young artists and adult mentors, provides opportunities for young artists to develop marketable artistic and prosocial skills to prepare them for adulthood. The young artists participate in community mural projects, perform commission work for various patrons including KUMC, LISC, and individuals wanting special artwork. The murals reflect the interest and history of the local community. Mural projects are about involving all facets of the community to help design and create artistic representations of what is important and engage residents in the actual painting. The unveiling of the murals is typically a celebration of the beautification and portrayal of hope by the community. Recent projects include murals at the new Kansas City Police Department Campus at 27th and Prospect, "Save the Fountains" campaign, Watkins Mill "Get Outdoors" Day, and MAPIT, the KCMO anti-graffiti initiative.

Goals & Strategy
Learn about the organization's key goals, strategies, capabilities, and progress.
Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
ArtsTech aims to offer better educational, health, and career opportunities to our young people in order for them to make better choices. Imagine a community where peace and justice is the norm and violence and social disparities are the exception. Imagine young people’s voices being heard and acted upon because they are our change agents for a better community. Imagine neighbors being neighborly and setting a civil tone for our current leaders. Led by our young people and through open and honest dialogue will a healthier future occur. This is our vision.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
ArtsTech uses creative and innovative youth development strategies to engage the hard-to-reach urban population. You must first build a trusting relationship with youth and then provide meaningful and relevant activities. ArtsTech uses art and technology to get youth involved in our programs. Art and technology are two areas that do not necessarily require a formal education to be successful. On the art community, patrons buy artwork based on interest not what college you attended. In the tech world, managers want to know what certification you have not if you went to MIT. Artstech does push all our participants to progress in school and we will help them stay in school. Open and honest are also strategies we use to positively impact our youth.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
ArtsTech's business model is to have a small core of multi-skilled professionals and hires independent contractors that are best suited for the program or project being implemented. This model allows our organization to have the most qualified and capable professionals working with our youth. As typical with most non-profits, when funding is eliminated and/or programs has reached its maturity, ArtsTech can retreat back to its core team.
