Ozarks Kat and K9 Shelter (Society for Treatment of Abandoned and Fractured Friends)
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
The main problem we face is a population of unwanted cats and dogs. The underlying contributor is a lack of education and understanding.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Rescue and Adoption Program
We intake canines and felines from the Lake of the Ozarks area and surrounding areas in Missouri. Once the animals have been vetted, spay/neutered, and brought current on all age appropriate vaccinations, we find loving homes to adopt them into, or transfer them to other no-kill shelters who have access to a larger pool of approved adopters.
Spay/Neuter Program
We offer assistance to low income families in Camden, Miller, Morgan, Pettis, and Benton counties. Our voucher program can help at any of the 4 participating low cost spay neuter clinics around our area. Call us for more details.
Community Education
We talk with the public about the importance of caring for their animals including - spay/neuter, vaccines, wellness exams, and general care of their pets
Community Support Program
We operate a pet food pantry for those in need who want to keep their pets but are having a hard time caring for them.
We also assist families with emergency vet bills, when funding provides.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Our longterm goal is to eliminate the over population of unwanted companion animals in our community. To accomplish this we educate and offer low to no cost services to our community pet owners in need.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Advertise and offer low to no cost spay and neuter services.
Participate in feral cat programs through national organizations.
Engage with city, county, and state gov't to positively impact the unwanted pet population in our area.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We are a small but dedicated group of board members, employees, and volunteers who possess the experience, passion, and desire. Our shelter and partnering clinic teams combined have more than 50 yrs of experience in the animal welfare industry. Our efforts are supported through grants, donations, and sales at our thrift store.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
We have established a low-income spay and neuter assistance program, which is funded by grant awards received from Community Foundation at the Lake, and also private fundraising efforts. We've partnered with PetSmart and local Missouri food pantries to provide dog and cat food to those in need. We have also established a program to assist low income families with emergency vet bills, which is funded by grant awards received through Petco Love, and private fundraising efforts.
