Cerner Charitable Foundation is building healthier tomorrows and stronger communities around the world through individual medical grants and wellness programs, engaging volunteerism, community initiatives and strategic partnerships. Cerner, its associates and partners give their time, expertise and resources to close the gaps in health care for children, reduce disparities in our communities, and support health care and veteran communities.

Reach Trips

Cerner associates travel with already-established mission groups to several locations around the world. They help treat the children and help with other necessary aspects of the mission.

The Love Bag program provides much needed personal items to children entering the foster care program or students at our Healthe Kids Screenings Schools.  Individuals or groups donate supplies and assemble these bags for First Hand.

Healthe Kids Screenings offers free health screenings for elementary school children in the greater Kansas City area. If a child is identified with a medical referral during the screening, First Hand is committed to closing the gap by connecting the child to care and providing financial assistance, if needed.

Healthe Foundations is a highly interactive and experiential high school health curriculum, offered free of charge in 44 school districts.

Healthe Communities facilitates a person-centered wellness home for a diverse community in Belton Missouri. Our wellness center provides screening services for adults and children, including biometrics and lipid profiles, without charge to participants. Coupled with educational sessions and wellness programming, Healthe Communities seeks to engage individuals, regardless of financial status or insurance, in managing their health - whether their goals are to maintain their current good health, manage a chronic condition, or seek access to the health care system to secure urgent care.

Individual Case Grants: The application-based case grant program provides funding for children to receive needed care, often improving or saving their lives.
Community-Based Wellness: The free community-based wellness program offers health navigation and advocacy tools along with wellness screenings and fitness classes to help children and the adults around them adopt healthy behaviors.
High School Healthy Lifestyle Program: The free high school healthy lifestyle program teaches teens how to take charge of their health, showing how their decisions today can shape their future.
Wellness Screenings: The free wellness screenings program for elementary students identifies potential issues and recommends referrals for follow-up monitoring and care.
Social-Emotional Wellness Program: The comprehensive middle school program offers a social-emotional learning curriculum, staff development, social-emotional wellness screenings and access to follow up care.
Care Kits: Children facing difficult times receive their own bags full of age-appropriate personal items, creating a sense of comfort and security.

In addition to a dedicated 41-person staff, Cerner Charitable Foundation leverages unique model of corporate philanthropy that brings together the associates, technology and business partners of Cerner – a leading-edge health information technology organization and Fortune 500 company.

Since its founding in 1995, Cerner Charitable Foundation, formerly First Hand, has changed the lives of nearly 600,000 individuals in 93 countries. Today, Cerner Charitable Foundation has one of the most robust population health models within the philanthropic industry outside of the traditional health system.

In fiscal year 2020:
• 20,762 student wellness screenings were conducted in Kansas City area schools
• 6,048 Care Kits were distributed globally to children facing difficult times like foster care or homelessness
• 6,491 students participated in the foundation's high school healthy lifestyle curriculum
• 1,091 individual case grants funded to provide care to children around the world
• 11,472 engagements, such as advocacy appointments and medical consultations, completed at the foundation's community-based wellness program
• 5,112 middle school students participated in a mental well-being program
• 57,846 school-aged children in India benefited from improved health facilities, school health programming and sanitation initiatives
• 26,278 school-aged children in India received wellness screenings conducted through a replication of the foundation's model

With more than a decade of experience creating and implementing programs to create healthier populations, one foundation goal is to create outcomes and knowledge than can be share with other organizations and communities.
