Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Kids Can Cook
Bringing hands-on, plant-based, action-packed culinary skills to students.
This program makes healthy eating a fun, accessible option by giving kids the knowledge and skills to whip up healthy (and delicious!) creations.
Students also interact with and visit local urban farms to learn more about organic fruits and vegetables.
In the advanced program, students also gain practical culinary skills that may assist them in obtaining employment.
Learn Grow Launch
Hungry for more? Students who want to advance their knowledge of business in the culinary arts have the opportunity to be mentored by local entrepreneurs in their community.
This program teaches students basic entrepreneurial principles and exposes them to opportunities in the hospitality and agricultural industries.
This program also educates students on the basic tenets of financial literacy. An understanding of basic financial principles is essential for entrepreneurship.
Plant-Life
The Plant-Life Program introduces youth and families to the benefits of making more plant-based and healthy meal choices.
This program offers live presentations by professionals on healthy cooking and nutrition along with tips, recipes, and resources.
The Plant-Life program also makes these seminars available via our online virtual learning platform.
The Food Studio At Pittsburgh Yards
The Food Studio is a community based plant-based shared commercial kitchen located in the Pittsburgh Yards Development in South Atlanta. It will offer several membership options for local plant-based food entrepreneurs and hospitality businesses that are in need of food production space. It will be focused on plant-based nutrition, and integrate infrastructure and entrepreneurial support to help aspiring food entrepreneurs create successful business ventures to improve their economic conditions and provide members of the target community access to healthier foods options so that they can improve their well-being.
It is operated by the Urban Oak Initiative, a non-profit organization that seeks to To equip black, Indigenous, and people of color youth, families, and communities, to take full advantage of plant-based nutrition and the vegan economy through teaching, cooking, and convening.
The Food Studio is scheduled for completion in early 2024.
