Educational Opportunities

The key role of SPARK is to provide lifelong learning non-credit, high quality, and modest cost classes to people 55 and older. Classes are scheduled four quarter a year. Classes meets for two hours once a week for four to six weeks. Humanities classes may include: History, Current events, Music, Literature, Art, Religion, Philosophy, Science, Theater, Law and Health. While most courses include texts or other printed information, there are no tests or exams in  SPARK classes. Instructors of SPARK classes are volunteers passionate about their subject and are often members of SPARK.

Since May of 2020, much of SPARK's programming has had a virtual access component. This allowed members to access classes safely during the height of the Covid19 pandemic and continues to benefit members who are home bound or who have moved out of the Great Kansas City area.
