Programs and results
What we aim to solve
Our community is very diverse, and does not have a lot of high-quality, low-cost opportunities to gather around high-quality arts performances. This diversity is ethnic, age-related, and income-related.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Conversation Concerts
A "Conversation Concert" is a unique event, where soloists, chorus and orchestra are employed to illustrate points of a pre-performance lecture. In twenty minutes, we explore the musical, historical, and theological context of the programmed work, in order to make the composer's efforts more accessible to our modern ears, and more relevant to our contemporary way of life. Then we perform the entire work, uninterrupted.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
ORGANIZATIONAL GOALS 2014 - 2020
Goal One: Strengthen our capacity for underwriting our programming
Goal Two: Increase our program offerings
Goal Three: Increase our artistic profile
In order to achieve the goals set forth here, ChorSymphonica's leaders are committed to:
Anticipating future challenges and responding to emerging issues Deepening our value to the community and region
Leading the effort to become increasingly strong, creative and vibrant
Strengthen our capacity for underwriting our programming.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Goal 1: Strengthen our capacity for underwriting our programming.
A. Turn attention to individual donors, while increasing foundation and government grant applications.
B. Utilize the power of social media and e-mail for fundraising.
C. Devise a web site with “Landing Page" to capture names and contact information of visitors to our concerts and our social media pages using engaging concepts like give- aways or contests with prizes.
D. Create a volunteer corps for all manner of tasks, from promotion to logistics.
E. Recruit additional board members from the volunteer corps, and from the social circles of our current board.
F. Explore other fundraising options, such as crowdsourcing groups like Hatchfund.
G. Better understand our audiences and what might prevent or encourage people to attend our performances.
H. Network wtih and participate in training offered by Chorus America, and the Arts Council of Fairfax and Montgomery County, conventions, seminars, and webinars.
I. Network and communicate with individuals in grant making foundations. J. Maintain the Cultural Data Profile from the Cultural Data Project.
K. Create “house list" of names and contact info of potential supporters.
L. Pay modest salary to the Artistic/Executive Director.
Goal Two: Increase our program offerings.
A. Find new venues outside of Vienna at minimal or no cost to the organization, particularly in Montgomery and Fairfax Counties.
B. 2014-15: Three projects, at least one held in Montgomery County at a “classical music" venue, one of which should be a “Conversation Concert."
C. 2015-16: Three to four projects, one of which should be a “Conversation Concert," associated with a conducting workshop.
D. 2016-17: four projects, to six projects per year by 2020-21.
E. Repeat our “Conversation Concerts" programming, currentlly focused at OLGC in Vienna, in Montgomery and Fairfax County venues.
F. Launch our first workshop for conductors as a Cantata Weekend, three or four participants rehearsing and performing a Bach Cantata with ChorSymphonica, in a Conversation Concert format project at OLGC, and with a second performance of same program (same repertoire) led by the Artistic Director in Montgomery County, venue TBD as soon as possible.
Goal Three: Increase our artistic profile.
A. Continue to challenge our musicians and our audiences with the great music of the
choral canon, including repertoire that is not within artistic reach of other local groups.
B. Recruit musicians from beyond the immediate, regional area.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
ChorSymphonica, through its parent company, The Rockville Bach Academy, Inc, and its dedicated artistic staff and board of directors, is fully confident and capable of carrying out these stated goals, which were drawn from our Strategic Plan for 2014 - 2017.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
We have succeeded in creating an attractive, functional website, and are contributing to daily maintenance of our Facebook and LinkedIn (social media) contact networks. Once we have moved to schedule our next performance, we will publish our activities on social media, and also on an e-mail list that has been built using MailChimp.
Our board has increased by one new member in the past year.
Our staff has attended Chorus America's annual conference in Washington, DC.
Our staff has applied for numerous foundation and corporation grants, and is anticipating an award from the local arts council, as well as future applications for both local, state and private funding.
Through these efforts, our artistic profile is growing. We are anticipating performances in the Cultural Arts Center for the first time, and offering, in addition to our "Conversation Concerts," which are free admission, two ticketed performances of outstanding repertoire in the 2019 - 2020 season.
