Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Moonracer Rescue's goals: To responsibly rescue, rehabilitate and find loving homes for homeless dogs from Manatee County Animal Services county shelter. We intend to expand our efforts to promote the benefits spay and neuter and to create more awareness of irresponsible breeding practices. We are working on programs that will be beneficial to members of the community who don't speak English. Our focus is on injured, sick and the dogs who are not likely to be rescued by others. We want to continue to promote pit bull-type dogs and how wonderful they are with proper veterinary care and training. The ultimate goal is always to change a dog's life and present a balanced, healthy, happy, trained dog to potential adopters.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
We are planning a group distribution of informational materials written in a friendly tone to target neighborhoods where dogs are found most often. I have spoken at schools, a local television show and on the radio about our mission. We want to attract young people to Moonracer Rescue, we believe the only road to change is with young people caring and working to save pets. We believe that nurturing that innate love that children have for animals will make a huge impact in the world of homeless pets. We have put in place some fundraiser-savvy people who are working hard on everything from online sales to holiday breakfasts and golf outings to raise funds for the care of our animals. We are applying for grants and promoting the rescue online as well as in traditional media.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Our group of volunteers includes so many talented people willing to donate their time, money and efforts to this cause that we are beginning to realize we can do incredible things. We've attracted more donors and with more donations, we are able to do so much. We have so much to give, from computer savvy minds to fundraising geniuses that we are poised to make this a year to remember. We have gone to rescue the worst cases of animal abuse and neglect that we've ever seen and produced outcomes that bring people to tears, we have an amazing team that works well together and we put it in motion to get the job done.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
When I started Moonracer No Kill Animal Rescue, there were three of us, saving two or three dogs at a time. Since then, September, 2011, our foster homes and volunteers have grown to over 50. Not everyone is able to foster dogs, so many people jump in to transport the dogs, help with adoption events and do computer work. We promote bully breed dogs every chance we get and when we show off the great dogs we have, people are amazed and we are changing the attitudes about pit bull type dogs. We often hear of how people have changed their minds about the breed type because of us. Our message of respect for animals is being received very well.
