Disaster Services

CCCNMO offers both short and long-term recovery assistance for those affected by natural disasters. We work in collaboration with government agencies, other non-profits, area churches, and county Long-Term Recovery Committees. Our dedicated case managers listen to our clients’ stories, help them identify their needs, locate resources and assist them in developing a long term recovery plan that will lead to self sufficiency.

When natural disasters strike, Catholic Charities of Central and Northern Missouri has specially trained staff to help survivors on their road back home!

HUD-certified counselors cover topics such as budgeting, mortgage and banking information, credit scores, and savings strategies. The Housing Counseling program educates clients on the home buying process, addresses barriers to mortgage readiness, and makes the client mortgage ready if at all possible.
The majority of counseling is conducted in one-on-one sessions with CCCNMO HUD-certified counselors.

Refugees are individuals who have fled their countries of origin and who meet the United Nations’ criteria of having a “well-founded fear of persecution for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion.”

Refugees, having suffered great loss, including their homes, livelihoods, possessions, and often times families, need assistance starting over in a new country. Their initial and ongoing needs are many: food, clothing, shelter, employment, English language training, and orientation to a new community and culture. Catholic Charities offers a comprehensive array of services designed to meet the complex needs or our refugee clients.

In partnership with Catholic parishes, Parish Social Ministry (PSM) is a resource specialist in the development and delivery of services that strengthens the capacity of parish communities to serve vulnerable people of all faiths and become Centers of Charity and Mercy for their neighbors in need. We provide leadership, guidance and training to those called to serve and those who are served. We do this with mutual respect and caring, Christ-centered compassion, insight and adaptability to meet the varied and changing needs of those we serve.

PSM works with parishes to empower parishioners to live out their baptismal call to serve the needs of those living right in their own communities. The program assists in establishing or enhancing current parish ministries and programs to address unmet community needs, gather and train volunteers, and help obtain any additional funding needed to implement these services.

Established in 2020, the Hispanic Community Outreach program was developed in response to the increasing need identified within the Hispanic Community.

The Hispanic Community Outreach program assists with the following:

Connecting members of the Hispanic community with COVID-19 resources
Case management (short-term and long-term)
Homelessness prevention, integrating rent/mortgage assistance when appropriate
The Hispanic Resource Coordinator provides culturally and linguistically responsive client-centered case management to decrease barriers to access, increase self-sufficiency, and promote physical and emotional wellness.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

We help people in need get on their feet and maintain stability so that they don’t have to face these hard situations in the future. Our programs and services provide for individuals’ and families’ immediate needs, while also offering the tools and resources for a better tomorrow. Our compassion and commitment to move beyond direct service compels us to address the root causes of poverty through advocacy and the promotion of social justice.

We believe in the message of Jesus that conveys love and hope.
We affirm the sacredness and dignity of all human life.
We work in partnership with others who share in our mission.
We pursue excellence and uphold integrity in all we do.
We offer service to those in need regardless of background, belief or circumstance.

We belong to the nation’s largest private social services network through our affiliation with Catholic Charities USA. Our staff are experienced, well trained experts in their particular field of service. Our board of directors is committed to our mission and values, and we have an extensive network of volunteers, donors, and supporters within the community.

Since 2011 we have welcomed hundreds of refugees from around the world to their new homes; assisted survivors of natural disasters in their most desparate times of need; counseled and coached those struggling financially to develop and cultivate new money management habits; ministered to the sick and incarcerated; and encouraged our parish partners to care for those in their communities.
