Food Backpack Program With Schools

On the last day of school each week, volunteers and staff fill backpacks with six meals and snacks.  They faithfully deliver them to schools that discreetly dispense them to the students identified by Manatee County Project Heart under the guidelines of the McKinney Vento Act: Children sharing housing due to economic hardship or loss of housing, children living in motels, hotels, trailer parks, or camp grounds due to lack of alternative accommodations, children living in emergency or transitional shelters, children whose primary nighttime residence is not ordinarily used as a regular sleeping accommodation and children living in parked cars, public spaces, abandoned buildings, substandard housing, bus or train stations.
