What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Power Hour

Power Hour: Making Minutes Count helps Club members ages 6-18 achieve academic success by providing homework help, tutoring and high-yield learning activities and encouraging members to become self-directed learners.

Designed specifically to help kids and teens with homework, this program is available after school at Clubs. Dedicated youth development professionals and volunteers supervise each session and help youth members complete their assignments for the day. When they finish their work, they may choose to participate in a variety of other engaging and educational activities to develop their skills even further.

Power Hour is a great opportunity for kids and teens to get their homework completed in a quiet place with support from trained, caring staff at a Boys & Girls Club.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Today’s youth are surrounded by negative influences, temptations, misdirection and the challenges of bullying, self-acceptance, drug use and sexual pressures. The unstructured hours from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. leave many kids to find their own forms of supervision and recreation. This critical time after school is when kids and teens are often most vulnerable. Boys & Girls Club of Flagstaff (BGCF) is a place where young people go to have fun and be safe when school is out - during the school year and throughout the summer. Our first-class innovative programming and youth development professionals encourage and help our kids set and reach academic and personal goals.

Improve overall Club impact through an increase in quality programs and a significant Increase in membership and average daily attendance (ADA). Explore all expansion, community outreach, and collaboration opportunities that support the goal.

Assure the Club’s future though a balanced fund development program supported by a marketing/community awareness plan that strengthens the Club’s image in the community.

Assure the Club has suitable facilities throughout our service area too efficiently and effectively service current members and support future growth through the acquisition of new and maintenance of current and new sites.

Establish and formalize board development best practices assuring the continued development of a top performing non-profit governing board.

Maintain and improve on a solid foundation of organizational standards and process to include: human resource management in support of developing and maintaining a quality professional team; expand and improve the use of technology in all areas.

BGCF has 5 diverse Clubs located within the communities of Flagstaff, Winslow & Holbrook. Our kids come to us from many different backgrounds and for many different reasons. No matter the level of financial assistance or emotional support needed, in our doors, youth become Club kids ... an honor to carry throughout life.

Our professional caring staff mentor and inspire kids and teens while helping them avoid risky behaviors during non-school hours. Averaged throughout the school year and summer, we employ more than 20 (full-time and part-time) employees to serve the 250 youth who attend one of our 5 locations every day. Staffing levels spike during the summer when we offer full day summer camp.

In addition to investing in our infrastructure and professional staff, BGCF has successfully adapted innovative, model programming, designed to empower youth to excel in school, become good citizens and lead healthy, productive lives - designed to meet the needs of the local communities we serve. With programs like: Fine Arts; STEM; Summer Brain Gain (a summer learning loss prevention program); Power Hour (homework help and tutoring program ); Healthy Lifestyles Program (comprehensive health and wellness program); CareerLaunch (prepares teens for the world of careers and work); Keystone Club (leadership development); Leaders in Training (character and leadership); and Youth of the Year (our signature effort to foster a new generation of leaders), we prepare our members for Great Futures.

Commitment from the community is key. BGCF partners closely with local and regional corporations, governmental organizations, schools and other nonprofit organizations so we can bring the very best programming to the youth we serve. Over the past 12 years, BGCF has built a strong history of community support and investment from corporations, foundations, governmental entities and individuals.

We utilized Boys & Girls Club of America's (BGCA) National Youth Outcomes Initiative Survey that helps us identify gaps, needs and successes in terms of Quality assessment. We continuously monitor our progress each board meeting and check to see if we are on track to complete goals for the year.
