Peace of Mind – for You & Your Child – Become One with the Water
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
One with the Water is a non-profit organization providing access to the lifesaving skill of swimming to everyone, especially children and adults with high risk, high needs, and limited resources. Across our great land, there are countless people with unrestricted access to coastlines, lakes, rivers and swimming pools. Many of these people lack the resources for swimming lessons and are at high risk of drowning. In the state of California drowning is the leading cause of death in children between the ages of one and four. We envision communities where every child, adolescent, and adult of any income have the opportunity to master the water and be confident, courageous, successful and safe, both in and out of the water. Through our experience providing swimming lessons, we discovered a beautiful thing. Mastering the water creates a transformation in the mind of the student; a shift from a Fixed Mindset to a Growth Mindset.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Swimming Lessons
Our swim classes for children are designed to have your child swimming by the end of the eight swim lesson course. With our structured swim lessons for children, students are typically swimming by the third or fourth swim class! The first four swim classes are spent getting your child water safe and comfortable in the water, working on breathing and swimming freestyle and breaststroke. The second week of swim lessons are devoted to building confidence in the water and introducing further swimming techniques.
Adaptive Sports Swimming Lessons
Our disabled swimming program focuses on identifying the potential of the disabled swimmer and their ability level in order to provide the best opportunities for swim sports development. We work hard to develop a customized disabled swimming program for each individual and set goals that are achievable and realistic. Our disabled swimming program gives disabled swimmers the opportunity to compete in disability-specific events while improving their overall motor coordination.
One with the Water®'s adaptive sports program provides customized swim training programs for individuals with special needs such as a physical disability or visual impairment. Swimming with a disability can be challenging but also incredibly rewarding as competitive swimming with a disability can provide not only physical health benefits but also instill confidence, focus and determination in the swimmer.
PTSD Therapy Swimming Program
Our PTSD therapy swim program is custom-designed for each individual and provides the following physical and mental health benefits:
Swimming activity releases endorphins - the body's natural mood-elevating chemicals
Improves stamina, strength and endurance
Improves self-esteem and self-confidence
Increases energy levels
Helps to develop discipline
Get away from it all and lose yourself as you become "one with the water"
Achieve your weight loss goals
Our PTSD therapy in Los Angeles includes completely customized swim programs for individuals who suffer from post-traumatic stress. The Program is specifically designed to help PTSD sufferers improve their swim skills, increase their physical fitness and reduce their stress. One with the Water® knows that each swimmer is different and we are dedicated to working with you to develop a PTSD therapy swim program that will meet your unique, individual needs.

Goals & Strategy
Learn about the organization's key goals, strategies, capabilities, and progress.
Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
1. Increase Student Outreach - We must continue to develop a consistent outreach program to interest new students. We wish to grow enough to provide free swimming lessons to patients ages 6-18 living with special needs.
2. Increase Brand Equity and Visibility - Develop specific parent and student driven marketing initiatives to give them a more specialized service experience.
3. Develop Long-term Partnerships - Reach out to engage in joint venture agreements with those (partners, we want to be the subcontractor of choice to provide swimming lessons) via phone, e-mail and through social media marketing efforts.
4. Technology Integration - In order to become a leader in our industry, we need to be agile and able to share our internal knowledge and information.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
In order to become a leader in our industry, we need to be agile and able to share our internal knowledge and information. This means understanding the progression of each of our students and prospective students from initial interaction through to graduation. We will be a paperless organization and our databases will be accessible to instructors, parents, and students who want to know how the student is progressing. Our ability to assess student need and prescribe customized training solutions stems from our ability to share information.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We are certified instructors by the American Swimming Coaches Association for Disabled and Masters Swimming. Additionally, we are certified by the American Red Cross. Coach Kenneth has attended training sessions on working with kids with Autism and Asperger's Syndrome, and other special needs with Kahlon Family Services and Inizio Interventions, in order to provide applied behavior intervention to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. Additionally, Kenneth has attended teacher training sessions with World-renowned Shana Meyerson of mini yogis® yoga for kids and along with his special-needs swim lessons teaching experience in Santa Monica, Kenneth has completed the Level 3 Disability Certification with the American Swim Coaches Association.
American Swim Coaches Association (ASCA):
- Disability Certified Swim Coach: Level 4
- U.S. Masters Certified Swim Coach: Level 3
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Since inception, we teach over 1200 kids and adults per year, and award an annual average of $45,000 in scholarships! As they say, “It takes a village to raise a child." Well, it takes a community to teach a kid to swim. We want to thank all of our members, donors, and our great staff for their generosity and contributions, without you, the success of the organization would not be possible.
