LELT FOUNDATION INC
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
Our neighborhoods in central Ethiopia are plagued by acute poverty. This impoverishment presents immense challenges ranging from nutrition-related illness, to illiteracy, to lack of employment opportunities. Lelt foundation provides efficient, ethical aid while preventing dependency-based assistance.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Education Program
Lelt provides educational support for every child in their programs. Over 60% of students attend private school, and all students are given after-school tutoring classes. Technology and IT classes are available to all children in middle school and up. In addition to children's education programs, an adult education program meets twice a week to help parents learn the basics of reading and writing to empower better employment opportunities.
Micro finance Business Start-Up Program
We empower severely impoverished adults in Kara Kore, Ethiopia to creat their own small businesses and be self-sustainable. THis is a micro-finance program.
Family Home Program
Lelt Foundation shelters homeless and abused children with a House Mother and House Auntie who have been trained in trauma counseling. This is not a foster home, but a new and permanent family. This house is based on a platform of love, respect, and encouragement for the youngsters.
Nutrition
Lelt provides daily nutritious meals for all students in our programs so that they are able to focus on their schoolwork, not their hunger. In addition, each family is provided monthly food rations so they are eating well at home, as well.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
We combined three main programs in nutrition, education, and job creation to provide each of our participating families with sustainable assistance. The 3 programs working in synergy avoid dependence. Our goal is to have each of our families graduate from our assistance programs after several years with stable employment, healthy lifestyles and an advanced education.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Our three main programs --nutrition, education, and job creation-- are in daily rotation at our two Community Centers.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Our nutrition, education and job creation programs have been running successfully for the past 4 years. We require funding to strengthen and grow these programs.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
We are not able to include all of our children in private school, or enroll all of our parents in the job creation program, from lack of funding.

- We ask team members to identify racial disparities in their programs and / or portfolios.
- We analyze disaggregated data and root causes of race disparities that impact the organization's programs, portfolios, and the populations served.
- We have long-term strategic plans and measurable goals for creating a culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
- We seek individuals from various race backgrounds for board and executive director/CEO positions within our organization.
