The Science Experience
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
Currently we have many opportunities to engage K-12 students but require more volunteers to take advantage of the opportunities presented.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Inland Empire Underwater Remote Operated Vehicle Competition
40 teams will compete on underwater obstacle courses using team-developed underwater remote operated vehicles that they have designed and built, and will compete making poster presentations of their work. Winners will be granted the opportunity to proceed to the National Competition.
STEM Certificate for Educators
This program is operated on behalf of the California State University at San Bernardino College of Extended Learning. It is offered to both certificated teachers and after school and non-certificated instructors. The focus is to bring attendees information up to the standards of the Common Core and the Next Generation Science Standards.

Our results
How does this organization measure their results? It's a hard question but an important one.
Number of students showing interest in topics related to STEM
This metric is no longer tracked.Totals By Year
Context Notes
This program did not exist prior to 2013. We implemented it and now we have more than 20 schools participating in the program.
Number of children who have the ability to use eye-hand coordination, strength, and motor control to use age-appropriate tools and utensils effectively
This metric is no longer tracked.Totals By Year
Context Notes
Taught children how to solder, build and launch paper rockets, the properties of vacuums and how electricity is generated and works.
Goals & Strategy

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Our primary goal is to raise awareness of advanced science, technology, engineering and mathematics principles to the people in our service area. The area is underserved and much of the population is low income (23% live below the poverty line) .
Our secondary goal is through the use of this type of informal learning we can have an impact on the quality of life for the over 4 million people (1 million of whom are children) who inhabit our service area (Riverside and San Bernardino Counties in CA).
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Benjamin Franklin said; "Tell me and I forget, teach me and I remember, involve me and I learn." We believe that providing an informal interactive learning experience will enhance the education of the area students and encourage them to stay in school, complete their high school education and continue on into either a two or four year institution.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We currently have the capacity to use outreach with our interactive and robotic exhibits and programs to engage students (and adults) in fun ways to learn concepts to which they are not otherwise exposed. When we occupy our initial building we will be able to present more advanced exhibits that will further excite the population that we serve. In addition we will be able to work more closely with local institutions of higher learning in providing teacher professional development.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Since our inception in September 2011, we have introduced technology, and scientific and engineering principles to about 60,000 school children. Most of these children had never seen many of the concepts we introduced, much less had the opportunity to interact with them. We have built trust with the educational community and have worked closely with educational institutions on grant proposals. We have won grants from NASA, Mitsubishi Motors of America, Union Pacific Foundation, Time Warner Cable, the San Bernardino Community College District, California State University at San Bernardino, and the University of California at Riverside. We helped the California State University at San Bernardino develop a grant request.
